Did some horsetrading today and walked away with a 6"-barreled Colt Diamondback in .22lr, a gun I've been trying to lay my greedy, wheelgun-hoarding hands on for a while. Funny how you can lust after something for so long, and then, suddenly, there it is. Serial number is P18XXX, which I believe places production in 1981--not exactly the zenith of Colt quality but maybe a better man than I can identify any major flaws. Anyway, I normally don't go for "look at what I bought!" picture threads, but this gun is so damn photogenic it almost made up for my cheap camera and lack of skill with it.

Enviable. I remember lusting after glossy photos of the .22 Diamondback on the cover of a gunrag at the 7-11 I biked to when I was a kid, long before there was such a thing as an internet.

I hope it feels as good as I've always imagined it would.

Most folks find the Colts to be quite handsome.

I had a 4" 22 D'back swiped in a 1985 Burglary. Around 1998 I was on my way to a gunshow and stopped at a big gunshop to look around. They had a pair of 22s, one in 4" and one in 6" and both looked like new. The 4" was $325 and the 6" was priced at $375. Bought the short one. Should have bagged them both.

Went on to the show and bought a 4" D'back in 38 for $180. Not as nice but still worth it and then some.

Here they are with a Python thrown in for good measure.

Nice stable of horses there! Can't claim to have gotten quite the same deal, though compared to what these fellas seem to be asking for nowadays I'm very, very pleased.

Excellent. My very first handgun (years back) was a 6" .22 Diamondback. Still have it, rarely shoot it as I have come to prefer S&Ws. But it has been years since I have seen one for sale and I think the price is well over $1K. Even at that price mine is not for sale.

Yeah, it's getting pretty ridiculous. It took a long time before I found one for a "git yer butt over here" price.

Nice find. I won't ask what you have "in it". They are getting expensive. Along with the Python, they are two of the most photogenic revolvers ever made. The Diamondback is my favorite DA revolver.

No major pit falls. They are just fine revolvers.

Don't know what you had to give up in the trade, but you've got a nice looking Dback. The .22 models are getting harder and harder to find in my area and nice ones are bringing around $1100 to $1400.
