So I got tagged by the 1911 bug again today, mostly 'cause I've been following a buddy of mine around to different gun stores, since he's pistol shopping. You know, moral support. Seriously. Honest. :uhoh:

Anywho, today I stumbled on a stainless Colt Gunsite Pistol, handled it, pointed it, and it seems to have everything I want in a 1911, and nothing I don't. Asking price was $1150ish, NIB - sound about right? Anyone own one of these things, and/or have any significant range time with 'em? Good? Bad? Ugly?

Thanks in advance.

I think thats 'bout the right price for the Gunsite pistol; but are you sure
you want a new Colt~ ? When faced with a similiar decision, I put a
few more $$$$ with it, and bought a NIB Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special
1911; and have NEVER looked back. The Baer comes from the factory
tighter than Dick's hat band.:uhoh: Mine isn't broken it yet, but they
say once it gets broken in that is runs better than nanny's old corn
shucker~! Persons I know that have 'em, have sent many of
the .45 ACP's downrange with nairy a problem. Mine only has a'bout
300 rounds of 230 grain FMC's so far; but its definitely a keeper. All
thats required as far as maintenance goes, is keep her pretty well
lubricated and she will run like a finely tuned Swiss watch~!:D

Dan, thanks for the reply. The last Colt I owned, a NRM 1991A1 Commander, I didn't have nary a problem with. I'm sure Les Baer makes a fine 1911, but I'm really jonesin' on this Gunsite pistol.

Get the S&W SW1911PD Gunsite edition for $765, it has everything you need , is 28 oz. and very nicely made . I detest every S&W I,ve seen made since 1999, but this one is VERY nice and seems 100% reliable!:)

That's just about what they cost, if that's what you want.

Eight or ten years ago, if there was such a thing it probably would have retailed new for $850 or so, around what an Elite 10/.40 went for, but that's just where we're at with Colt at the moment.

I'll leave it for you to decide what that may or may not say about the state of the world or various gunmaker's competitiveness in the current market. It's still a solid product.

It's my understanding Colt no longer produces those, so if you want one... nows the time. ;)

If the feature set works for you, the Colt Gunsite is a good value. Other owners have been pleased with this model; however, there have been a few quality issues. The most common issues are the sights not being properly installed and the recoil spring plug tunnel being drilled off center. If you like the pistol and it is built properly, I would not hesitate to buy it.

1150 is a good price.....in fact check out the auction sites or Budsgunshop and see they are going for 100 or more bucks. Also as with just about all Colts ...it will go up in value. They are out of production now so if you like it.......
