Hickok 45 does a review of the new King Cobra 10 round .22LR.
Hint: He likes it. :)

Might need to keep me an eye out for one of these....
I need something to keep my Anaconda, Python and .357 Mag King Cobra company in the safe. Yes?
What ever you do, don't tell Mrs. Poper!! :what:

I have been seeking one of these since they've been released. Scarcer than the proverbial hen's teeth.

Hickok45 made me want one even more...
Yes, but at $999.00..... That's a lot of cash for a .22LR revolver!
Heck, the Cobra .38 Special is only $699!

BTW, a Sportsman's Warehouse in PA showed one in stock last night. ;)

Yes, but have you checked the price of a current production S&W 617 lately? A paltry $959, and I'm betting the Colt just may have a better DA pull out of the box.

And good luck if you're able to find clean specimens of the old pre-lock/pre-MIM Smiths in .22LR, such as the 34, 43, 63, 17, etc. - they're going for quite the premium these days.

It's good to have choices.

Anaconda, Python, King Cobra...
... Garter Snake?

Who is going to go for that ??
I don't think the Colt fans have been waiting with baited breath for a... Garter Snake...

Got to come a little harder than that.
Rattler... Copperhead... something along those lines.
I suspect their Marketing department would concur.

Ahh, but for those days when such money was only a few more hours per day in my paycheck....
Old age definitely has its drawbacks....
Maybe I should consider selling some of the dust collectors in the back of my safe? Now there's a thought....!

I'm guessing mostly because the ammo is...

It's a common and easy assumption to make. Especially for non-enthusiasts and people just getting into firearms. I'll admit to thinking the same way in the past, to an extent.

Also in years past, there were lots and lots of good quality .22 rifles of all stripes available for quite reasonable prices. Revolvers in .22... not so much. There are valid reasons for this, but a lot of people still figure that since the former is true, the latter should be also.

Not sure why people subscribe to the mindset that .22=cheap.

When I retired the 1st time I treated my self to an 1885 Low-Wall repro in .22LR from one of the best company's making them. A little over $4K back then. I had the same discussion with the president of the small company that built me gun, and he said the only differences is the bore size and ignition.

The same amount of work and materials go into both a centerfire and a rimfire, but for some reason folks just expect the RF to cost less.

These are really good revolvers. I was so impressed with my first one I bought a second. I'm looking forward to their 3" version coming next year. You have to handle and shoot one of these to truly appreciate it. Goes good with my Anaconda. DSC00554.jpeg DSC01029.jpeg

It would have been neat if Colt could have used the Diamondback name instead of reusing the King Cobra, with that said, I definitely like it. Maybe the Colt Garter Snake or something…😆
Colt's patent on the name Diamondback expired long ago. Diamondback firearms hsa pateneted the name now so Colt couldn't use it.

Well, back in my day...there were a lot of less expensive 22 rimfire revolvers. High Standard, my personal favorite, and Harrington and Richardson come to mind off the top of my head. Just a casual stroll through a Shooters Bible from that bygone era would show any number of rimfire handguns, both revolver and semi that were relatively inexpensive. Most were decent shooters but they obviously were not in the same class as Smith and Wesson, Ruger, Colt, or Dan Wesson. (Which by the way cost about the same then as their centerfire siblings even then.) However the others were a less expensive option. About all that's left like that today is the Heritage Rough Rider. I like the Rough Rider for what it is, but it will never be confused with any of the big three.

Picked up my Colt King Cobra a couple of weeks ago. First range trip was disappointing. Cleaned it, then went to the range and out of 100 rounds, perhaps 10-15 times the trigger would stack and stop in DA, in SA the Hamer would stop, both required a hard pull to complete. Took it home and cleaned it and fired with snap caps a bit, only happened a couple of times. The next day did the same with no issues. The next trip was 120 rounds and no issues. Cautiously optimistic it is ok now.

EDIT: Today another 100, had about 5 occurrences. I'm not sure how long I should give this before I contact Colt. Fear is I'll ship it off and it will function fine when there, as it did when I showed a friend the other day.

I just sold a spare S&W 17-2 for $1000. I would gladly replace my other with the new Colt for the same price if I could find one.

I would like a new 10 shot 617 if it didn’t have the lock…..hey just like the King Cobra.

Send it back now. My $300 Taurus functions as it is supposed to. Every firearm should function right out of the box.
