I really need this one. I just picked up a S&W Model 18-2, but I think I am really going to need the 4.25" version. This was announced at the 2022 NRA National Meeting, but I haven't seen any forum chatter about it yet. Supposed to start showing up Q3 of this year.

For a rimfire I think I will like this one a lot more than the S&W 617. The smaller D-frame (yes, I know the new Cobra models aren't an actual D-frame, but you know what I mean) vs. the K-frame S&W should make a very pleasant shooter.

Hopefully they don't repeat the known adjustable rear sight durability issues that some of the new Pythons seem to have.

Probably the same sight. Rumor is that Kensight has ideas.

Might have to apply the Ed Harris treatment. He is of the "hard use" camp and thinks pistol sights should be fixed. He would carefully zero adjustable sights, then epoxy them solid. He figured he could melt the epoxy if he changed ammo.

ETA: Much discussion on Coltforum.com
John Harrison sells replacement sight blade sets, the rear leaf beefed up.
Heffron has a method of squeezing the pin lugs to tighten the sight. Others have used metal shims, beer can is about right.

I'm probably going to zero my Python and this King Cobra assuming I get one at 10 or 25 yards and then Loctite the heck out of them.

I would love to see a duel between the S&W 617 and the Colt Cobra Target face to face.

Full underlug is totally unnecessary on a 22LR like that. I guess they're trying to keep the family resemblance...

I wish they'd quit screwing around and give us the 6" 357 already!

Wait a few weeks and the prices will go down. It costs a few hundred dollars to be the first one on the block to own one. It was the same with the Cobras, King Cobras, Pythons, Anacondas.

I hunted down for a model 17 with no luck, so I got a new 617 4" to celebrate some personal achievement and as soon took it to the range with my son (wheel gun advocate) promised me to clean well, but at his house.
Let see if I can incorporate one if price go down and do a fair duel just for the sake of THR.

How big of you, to take one for the team like that! ;)

I'm going to take a quick work break here and run over to Scheel's, if they have it, they always price at retail, and I know they have some Shadow Systems in stock, which I wanted to handle anyway.

If you're close to a Sportsman Warehouse you can get in stock notifications and get it for MSRP. Problem with that is you are fighting with everyone else trying to get it for that price.

This is purely a range and target arm. No need for exposxied in place fixed battle sights.
