I was looking at this model the Colt M4 A4, I thought about getting a carbine rifle,

I have a few questions,

#1 is $1200-$1400 the average price?
#2 pro/cons anyone who has one please post do you like/hate it? does it jam or other problems? I never owned a AR-15/m4 or any other model before I thought they jam up thats why I stick with ak's
#3 5.56 cal, does that mean it accepts 223 as well? could you place 223/5.56 in the same mag or no?

#4 Is the stock on it a tapco? or is it a nice brand who makes the stock?

#5 I know they got more parts than an Ak(idiot proof) that means more cleaning so is there any tiny part or something crazy that could break off when cleaning?

#1 - Seems high in today's market, someone posted not long ago they saw a 6920 for $1050, but I haven't personally seen that.
#2 - It's a Colt, it will be as good as any other AR. No specific problems for that model.
#3 - Yes, will shoot both .223 and 5.56 You could put them in the same mag, sure. Probably have different points of impact but it will work fine.
#4 - The rifle you are talking about is the (I'm pretty sure) 6920 model number. There are no low end aftermarket parts on that rifle.
#5 - I don't know if I would say the AR is more difficult to clean than anything else. There are always parts that can break but your post sounds like you are worried that it's made of glass or something. It's not.

For AR's the 6920 is considered the "reference standard". Not the best, not the worst, that's a religious debate as much as anything, but the 6920 is as close to "mil spec" I guess you'd say as you can buy. Whatever that is worth to you is up to you.

No, the stock on it is not Tapco. Unless you are looking at buying a rifle from somebody that replaced it with a Tapco.

You should be able to do better than that on the price. Around a grand at gunshows and $1100 at various internet sellers. Getting it shipped to your FFL will be a bit more.

If you take care of the rifle, it will not give you any problems. Keep it lubed. Don't go nuts during cleaning. Read this article by Pat Rogers. www.ar15.com/content/swat/keepitrunning.pdf

There are no tiny parts to break off (it's not an airsoft toy) but you do have to be intelligent enough to keep track of the firing pin retaining pin (it's a cotter pin), the firing pin itself, a part I can't think of the proper name of, and the bolt itself. And the extractor and pin if you pop it off for cleaning. I advise a small dish, cup, or mug just to hold these parts during cleaning.

Bottom line: if you've got an IQ above room temperature, your AR will not give you any problems- just use a bit of common sense and take care of it. You also don't have the be obsessive and abusive with cleaning, scraping away at the parts inside and sticking stuff into the gas tube. It's just not a good idea.

Yes, it will run .223 and 5.56 both without issues.

Thanks for the info guys thank you.

I like that one by Avenger29 ^

The Colt stock is a mil-spec no frills model. I improved mine with a slip over pad and a strip of pac skin.

Zero issues with mine to date.

what is the next model after 6920(colt m4 a4 one I am talking about correct?)

Next for what? The 6920 is considered by most to be the top of the line Colt carbine.

If you want to move to a monolithic rail there is the 6940, but the price goes up accordingly.

I bought one early last summer. at around 1,000 rounds it has not had one problem. I really do like it. Wish the adjustable butt stock was an inch or so longer. I will probably replace that. But it's a great gun. I'd buy it again. Paid 1,299. for it.

1. Seems about right for a gun that is actually in stock. Not a BS price for something that is back-ordered.
2. Colt is the standard, however S&W, Stagg and other companies that also make good weapons have slashed their prices ($799ish). Download the latest CDNN catalog.
3. Yes
4. No
5. Are you sure you don't really want to just stick with AK's?

Actually, you can get to the firing pin, extractor, and extractor spring for cleaning on an AR. I've never had an AK that far apart.
Some would say that's because you don't have to clean an AK that well. I'd say that any gun will benefit from not having crud around the extractor and from being able to replace a bad extractor or extractor spring in about two minutes.
Your mileage may vary.

i believe what the OP is speaking of is the next LEO carbine from colt the 6940
its the A4 part i think alot of people are missing here

there really isnt anything changed between the 20 and the 40 other than accessories internals are all the same it has a flip up front sight a monolithic rail system and a few other bells and whistles that the 6920 didnt come with but when you think of a quality AR people will always point in the Colt direction they are good products even tho the price is a bit hit and miss depending on where you get it from
