It's stamped on the frame beneath the cylinder crane. It is visible when the cylinder is opened. Same location as most other revolvers.

Well it somehow appeared...was not there yesterday... :) Thanks.

Anyone want to take a stab at a rough date for SN J9XXX?

Thanks.

You have the .38 spl. version of the Lawman Mk III. There was a brief market for a .38 spl. version when agencies like NYPD didn't allow .357 mag. (fear of over-penetration?). Hence the name implying urban use.

It would be hard to imagine a stronger more durable .38 spl. since the Mk III was a bit over-engineered even for the .357 cartridge. Soon after police agencies began putting the .357 into service and soon after that, semi autos. So there was a short production run making them somewhat desirable to collectors (but not on the same level of the very short production Viper).

You generated some envy here I'd bet.

The Metro was created for the exact reasons cited above when "enlightened" police administrators wanted their officers armed with a deadly weapon but not TOO deadly. With it's heavy barrel the Metro is often amazingly accurate, and frequently outshoots FAR fancier guns. If you have one, Congratulations. If you dry-fire, use snapcaps as it is possible to damage the firing pin. Otherwise your gun should easily last into the 22nd century.
