There was a thread a while back about replacing the ratchet on a Colt New Army. I couldn't find it again, so...

If I remember, the ejector ratchet is staked onto the ejector rod and special tool(s) are needed to remove/replace it.

Could someone please refresh my knowledge of the process.

If you look closely at the center of the ratchet, you can see where the ejector rod was peened in place so it couldn't come unscrewed again after it was assembled.

I have no personal knowledge of your exact model gun.
But in general, you will see the end of the rod slightly flattened with a punch, and a mark resembling an + on the back of the rod in the center of the ejector star.
(As if hit with a small chisel twice 90 degrees apart to peen & lock it in place.)

You can probably unscrew it carefully & forcefully enough to unscrew it.

But putting the same rod back in the same star runs a high risk of stripped or cross threaded threads in one, or the other, or both.

Proceed VERY Carefully!
But only if you must!

YES! ^^^^^^^ It is very easy to ruin the fine threads on the rod or the star. Those parts were not made to be disassembled unless they had to be replaced and new parts were available.

Brownells (www.brownells.com) has - or at least used to have - a special wrench that fit the ratchet for the purpose of removing or reinstalling it. However do take the previous advice.
