I have one I purchased for a nominal amount a couple of years ago. According to the serial # it was manufactored right around 1900. It has a problem I am told is fairly common. The cylinder free turns and doesn't advance when the trigger is squeezed. It is also missing the grip.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a reputable gunsmith in the Baton Rouge area that is known to be good repairing these as I don't wish to ship it.

Thanks

There are almost NO gunsmiths who will attempt to repair one of these New Army & Navy models.

There are virtually no parts available, and the action is very complex and fragile.
I think there's one or two cowboy shooter gunsmiths who will attempt a repair, but no local gunsmith will even look at one these days due to the complexity and lack of parts.

You can sometimes find original hard rubber grips on Ebay, and you can buy plastic replicas here:

All I can suggest is getting on one of the cowboy shooting sites and ask them for a gunsmith who might be willing to look at your New Army & Navy.

I have a late model New Army in 32-20, was a nice gun but needed a new hand w/spring. GunParts had the part, but fitting it was the problem. I am friends with a gun smith in another state that graduated from the school in Northern California, ( forgrt the name of the school), back when they still taught Colt fitting. He did it for me and checked out the entire lock work, also fitted a hand to a PPS that same day. He told me that there really aren't many of the old guns being brought in any more. That was the first NA he had seen in several years. He did a good job, the old gun is a pleasure to shoot.
