I always wanted a colt peacemaker but dont exactly have the budget, does anybody know something that would clinch my thrist till I could afford the real thing

Taylor's guns ARE Uberti.

Uberti sells guns to almost all the importers. Those that aren't Uberti are made by a different Italian maker.
Uberti will "flex" the level of finish for importers according to what price point the importer wants to sell at.
You have to compare the different levels side by side to detect the slight difference.

Cimarron, Navy Arms, Taylor and Uberti themselves sell the top quality guns. EMF and Dixie sell both the slightly lower quality finish Uberti, and the lower quality other Italian makers guns.

I went to a gun shop a bit over a year ago intent on buying a Ruger Vaquero. Walked out with a Uberti Cattlemen after looking at the two side by side and have had no reason to regret my choice.

I bought the Uberti about a year ago. Beautiful and shoots great. I looked at the Vaquero for a long time, and finally decided on the U for reason of price. Color case hard frame looks good and feels just the same. I got mine in 45 Colt. Would definitely be interested in another one for the cowboy action shooting that is taking off at my local gun club

good shooting

They don't make them anymore, but American Western Arms made a Peacemaker clone and I can tell you they are a pretty great quality clone. I have one that sports a 5.5" barrel and the fit and finish is impecable and the trigger is advertised as being factory tuned and I can believe it. Great gun. I have seen several on Gunbroker since I came into mine, I would recommend it.

USFA makes some very good clones too.

I have an Armi San Marco "Hartford" model that is an exact replica of the 1873 SAA issued to the US Cavalry. The fit and finish are beautiful and when sold new they were advertised as having parts that would interchange with the original Colts. The barrel is 7 1/2 inches long and the markings are true to the originals including the cartouche on the grips. It does have extra markings though. It's in .45 Colt. They also made an Artillery model with 5 1/2 inch barrel. If you can find one, they're worth considering.

A lot of good clones oout there but the best if you don't want to get into big bucks is the USFA Rodeo. It is built better than a Colt (Yes really) it will be perfectly timed out of the box and it will shoot to point of aim out of the box. When you can afford a Colt still buy the USFA with the CCH frame and blued barrel and cylinder. It will look exactly like the Colt but will still be better.

They're kinda proud of their stuff; I think the Uberti would be a less expensive better buy.
I've compared their prices to the uberti list prices which are ostensibly the same guns... the ubertis are about $50-$100 more.

At least based on the uberti site.

Get one of the plain US Firearms revolvers - great quality - although it's authentic to the point of carrying hammer down on empty chamber - no firing pin block, etc. I have one with the case hardening etc and it's a beauty.

Cimarron Model P. Had two 44s for 12 years without a hiccup. When I wanted some spare screws and different base pins Mike Harvey himself answered the phone and I had everything in a few days. If you add the Wolff wire trigger/cylinder bolt spring, the only flat spring left on the whole gun will be the mainspring. Cimarron already put a coil hand spring in it. They shoot extremely nice as well. Can't tell it from a Colt in the dark, and I had a bunch of Colts.

My 1st choice would be the Ruger New Model Vaquero because of it's strength, ruggedness and reliability. Plus it is American-made and Ruger stands behind them. 2nd choice would be a Cimarron Model P which is an Uberti with a great finish and great looks. The Cimarron lockwork is a bit more like Colt's than the Ruger, but the Ruger is stronger. If you look at the polls on some of the Cowboy Action Shooting websites, Rugers are preferred by a large margin, followed by the rest of the clones. If you can afford a USFA, their quality is excellent and they are now American-made. However they are a few hundred dollars more than the other clones.

You are making the quite understandable but erroneous assumption that Colt SAA copies will be less than an example manufactured by Colt.

STI, USFA and Doug Turnbull will disabuse you of such notions. If you accept Freedom Arms as a "clone" they'll pile on the bandwagon to make at least four copies that make Colt look like a relative bargain.

The existence of Colt clones that cost more than Colt continues to baffle some and astonish the rest. Personally, I'm amazed that Colt manages to retain the general perception that it's the "high priced spread".

In the spirit of the OP, I'll assume you meant "clones that are cheaper than Colt". Of these I prefer the New Vaquero (transfer bar notwithstanding) to the Uberti. Nothing wrong with either - I have both.
