Is there an online database for Colt revolvers other than proofhouse? I have a Diamondback and King Cobra I am trying to date, but both come after the serial numbers in the proofhouse database.
Not that I've ever seen. Colt Manufacturing doesn't list any DA revolvers. They want $75for a Colt Archive Letter for each revolver. http://www.coltsmfg.com/archive.aspx
The King Cobra was introduced in 1986, discontinued in 1992, and returned to Colt's product line in 1994. Dropped a second time in 1998.
Diamondbacks came in .22 LR, .22 Mag and .38 Special. Made between 1966 and 1986.
Colt will give you a manufacture date for any revolver if you call them. The Wilson book, Colt An American Legend covers serial numbers through 1986. Colt uses the same book reference if you call them. After 1986, it is call Colt or just guess.
As pointed out above, call Colt defense at their 800 number and give them the serial number.
They will give you the born on date for FREE.
Free call free service. Can't beat it.
