Will a Colt Trooper MK III fit too loose in a holster made for a S&W N frame the same barrel length? Got a very nice holster for S&W M29 4" and was hoping it could do double duty with a purchase I have on the way ...........a Colt Trooper MK III 4". :D

Trooper MK III would not fit in a S&W K holster. A S&W 4" N holster Model 21 -24 is an acceptable fit. Guess I will go with that for the time being.

Yeah, a more accurate fit is an "L" frame holster. An "L", Trooper or Python will rattle around a little in an "N" holster. If it's nickel or stainless that's not so big a deal in the short run, but if it's a high-polish blue, get a close fitting and preferably, lined, holster as soon as you can.

If you carry it extensively and if this is a concern for you, it will suffer more finish wear moving about in a holster that is too big for it than it would in a holster that fits properly. While some finish wear is inevitable unless you just leave it in your safe and only take it out occasionally to fondle it with white gloves, there is no sense in putting more wear on it than necessary, either.

Back when I owned a Python I noticed pretty quickly that it fit in any holster I had that was designed for the S&W K frame. An N frame holster will be to large.
