Can anyone tell me what the original nipple thread and pitch on the original Walkers and Dragoons were/are? I'm trying to locate some #12 nipples for my ASM Walker and Uberti 2nd Model Dragoon. I ordered some from Lodgewood Mfg that are supposed to be copies from the originals. They were1/4" but the threads were finer than 28 tpi. I've looked about everywhere I can think of but the only ones I can find are for #10 and #11 caps. In all my 'research' the originals used #12s. Some of the 2nd and 3rd Gen. Colts and some of the early replicas came with #12s but most who wanted to shoot their pistols had to change to #11 nipples. Any info will be greatly appreciated!

I tried them, no luck.
I ordered some from Numrich, some of their gunparts are used so maybe I'll get lucky. They had different part numbers for Walker nipples than 2nd Dragoons. Not sure if that'll make a difference, they are supposed to use the same nipple.

Hey Troy, did a quick search and found these. It says they fit Walker / Dragoon Uberti, etc. It means changing to type #11 caps but thats not going to be a bad change.
Here's the link.

Thanks for the reply. Like Hawg said, I have a BUNCH(a lot for me) #12 Remington caps so I'd like to find some nipples to fit them. It's kind of going in reverse....most people find caps for the nipples they already have!

Thanks for the reply. The threads in my pistols are 1/4-28. I've seen a couple of drawings that have the size of the Walkers and Dragoons as 1/4-32. I ordered a set of copies of originals from Lodgewood Mfg. and they were 1/4-32.

I have seen pictures of tools people made to resize caps. Like a wire stripping tool ground to squeeze caps tighter.
That's an idea but I'd rather just change the nipples if I can find any.

Original Walkers? You got an original Walker you are shooting? I would be curious to know what threads Samuel Colt was using in the 1840's. SAE was founded about 1905, no idea when SAE thread dimensions were standardized, and what was being used before.

It is also interesting to read that "original", which is probably 1950's and 60's Walkers were using english threads. Heck all the black powder replicas I have used used metric threads.

I wish I had an original Walker! Mines a '78 ASM. Do you have or ever had a Walker or Dragoon? The nipples are a bit bigger. My Walker and 2nd Model Dragoon both have 1/4-28 threads on their #11 nipples. Lodgewood Mfg. used nipples from original Walkers and Dragoons to make their copies. I ordered a set thinking they were 1/4-28 but when I got them they were 1/4-32.

My 1970's Navy Arms Rebel used metric threads on the cylinder!

I did purchase a Colt Blackpowder series Third Model Dragoon. What a monster!, Big chunk of iron. No idea of the threads, and I cannot remember what caps I used.

Seems finding the right size is a bit of a Treasure Hunt. That is, you will spend a lot of Treasure before you find what you need. :(

I believe you're right about the treasure!
I think most of the replica pistols smaller than the Walker & Dragoons used metric threads and maybe some of the Walker & Dragoons did too. I believe the 2nd & 3rd Gen. Colts used SAE threads but I may be wrong. Id really like to have a REAL Colt like your Dragoon but I prefer the square back triggerguard over the round.

Anything Italian made will have metric threads. The Colt 2nd gens may have SAE threads but since they were made from Italian parts I don't know that for sure. The 3rd gens probably have metric threads.

I have an early ASM with #12s

Do you know what the thread is on the nipples? If theyre 1/4-28 would you be willing sell them to me or to trade if I bought you any replacement nipples you'd like?

My ASM Walker and Uberti Dragoon both have 1/4-28 threads. It's like they made some with metric and some without. It would be interesting to know the reasons and what guns were and weren't...and the dates.

Ubertis are 12X28 th.
I have 3 Ubertis and have replaced the nipples on them.

What Ubertis do you have if you don't mind my asking?
I believe only the Uberti Wakers and Dragoons have 1/4-28 nipples. The other pistol use smaller metric threads.
