Little info please, friend owns a very low end trailer park, wouldn't believe what he gets offered for rent sometimes, I've bought some great guns at low prices from him, last two he brought by are a Grendel .22 (nasty thing) and a Colt Woodsman. Neither have magazines, the Colt is in good mechanical shape but finish is 75%. Does the Colt have a magazine safety? If slide is pulled to rear and safety off it will not fire. Attached is a link to the same gun for sale except this one has a 6" barrel. Where can I get a magazine for it reasonably, what model is it, and any indication of value?

Thanks Rk

We'll need to know the serial number and barrel markings. Colt made several variations of this gun over a lot of years.

It should fire without the magazine.

Magazines are easy to come by although a bit pricey. You should have no problem finding any other parts needed.

Woodsman

Great little pistols! Metalform makes magazines for the Woodsman.
Search for'em online and get the toll-free number. Push 4 when the recording offers the options. Ask for Ginny.

The prices on the website may not be updated, so they may not be current.

Lucky you!

Does this gun have a side button magazine catch like a 1911? If so it is a second generation Woodsman made in the 1950s has a magazine connect.

If it has a heel catch it does not have a magazine disconnect and may be damaged.

The Auction Arms gun is a third generation Woodsman Sport and does not likely have a magazine disconnect.

There might be some overlap, but that is the normal lineup and agrees with all Woodsmen I have owned or seen.

This one has a heel catch mag release, it is the same gun pictured exactly except for the barrel length so its the trird variation. The sn is a 14XXXX - S so it was made in 54-55. I can also see there are some parts missing.

thanks for the great info.

With a heel latch and that SN, the site SM gives has it as a very early second generation, made 1955. Ought not to have a magazine safety, but they do strange things in parts cleanup at model changes.
