im think of geting into the revolver game and im looking at either the Comanche III or the Rossi R97104 in 4" barrel. iv never shot a revolver before but im not new to big bore recoil, in that i own a 45ACP. im looking for opinions on either.

I have been shooting revolvers for over 30 years.
I have handled the Comanche and owned a Rossi.

I would recommend shopping for a used Smith & Wesson or Ruger 4" revolver in .357 magnum with adjustable sights. Either one is a much better gun for your "intro" to revolvers, one that you could keep for life and still be able to use daily.

I would not even consider any other brands but Ruger or Smith.

Due in part to some people saying anything other than a .... is Junk, I think to answer your question directly, I would go with a Rossi.
I've had a few Rossi's and the ones I've had were built well and shot nicely.
I can't say that about all of the Rossi's because I've only owned a few, but they look better built than the Commanche's I've seen and held.
My wife has a 4 inch Rossi and loves it.
It's not shot every day or every week for that matter, but I've shot it and I actually liked shooting it.
If you are on a budget and are not going to shoot 2000 rounds a week through it, i think you'll be happy with it.
Good luck on your choice.

Just my 2 pesos worth.

I have a two inch barrel 357 mag Rossi. I like it because the frame size is on the small side while holding 6 shots instead of 5. When I first got it I had a problem where it would lock up solid when one would fire full power 357 loads. I sent it back to Rossi and it now works very well. Rossi has a lifetime warranty so take advantage of it.

from what i can tell both have lifetime warrenties. the comanche is $200 and the rossi comes to $250. iv heard good and bad about both and still cant make up my mind.

I bought a rossi model 877 2 inch barreled 357 mag in 1999 and think it is a great gun and would not hesitate using it for self defense....But ( of course there is always one of those) This year the grip panel nut would not stay in the pocket built into the left hand grip panel. I have been told by the factory that they can be replaced for 23 dollars including shipping and handling. The only other draw back to the rossi is that no holster maker makes holsters specfically for the model 877. I can holster them in my galco's and don hume holsters made for Smith and Wesson K frames but the don't fit perfectly. The other options is just by generic made holsters for medium frame guns and not worry about it.

You can get a good used smith or ruger for about the same price as a new rossi so that might be something to think about.

I'd buy a Taurus since they have quite a selection which pairs up in the S&W nomenclature. I have found that more holsters, speedloaders, etc are labeled clearly as to the specific S&W model than nearly all others.

i would like to keep the cost as low as possable. Taurus seems to be outa my price range, thats the main reason im looking into the rossi 971 and Comanche III as there price is at or below $200. (used rossi 971 = $200) if price where not a factor, i would without second guessing get a S&W, ruger or Taurus.

sence the Comanche and Rossi line have a lifetime warrenty i thought it would be the smartest buy for my budget.

thx guys, i really appreciate the response's iv goten here. keep'em comin i never buy a firearm without doing my research. :)

The Rossi is a good solid shootable revolver. I had one as the wifes range gun for several years and we shot it quite a bit with no trouble at all. Depending on where you are, a little shopping around could find you a Canadian police trade in Ruger GP-100 for about $200.00 though and you'd be miles and smiles ahead of the game. While the Rossi is not bad, the Ruger is in a different league. Whatever you buy, shoot the heck out of it and enjoy it no matter what anybody thinks of it.

New Rossis or used S&Ws

Talk about great deals on old guns. Yesterday at the Indianapolis show I found a worn, beat up S&W Model 19-3 4 inch .357 to compliment by 6 inch 19-3.

Price? $225.

I took it to the range last night, it's just as accurate and smooth firing as my 6 inch model.
