You don't give us any idea of what you plan on doing with the rifle, or the specifics of the rifle: flat top, or carry handle.
Obviously, if you have a flat top, you are in a much better position.
The big thing is that you are not stuck with only one option in optics. You can have then all, and change them at will.
I have a number of optics that I use on AR15s. Most of them are on the superb LaRue mounts that come on or off in seconds. Of course I also have back up iron sights on all of my ARs also (Troy BUIS).
First of all, I have the Aimpoint ML2 and ML3. This is a dot optic and is the optic used by the US Army. My choice is a 4 MOA dot.
Second I have an TA31F ACOG. This is an extremly versitile optic. It can be used in close quarters with both eyes open, or it can be used as a conventional 4x scope. The reticle is lit with the power coming from fiber optic if there is ambient light, or radioactive isotopes if working in total darkness. The reticle is also calibrated for the 5.56 cartridge from 100-800 yards.
Then, I have a few conventional scopes. I just ordered a new one, the Leupold Mark 4 MR/T which is 3-9X with a 35mm objective lens and a 30mm tube. The reticle is illuminated and also features mil-dots. This scope will be mounted in the LaRue SPR mount.
The flat top, combined with these wonderful LaRue mounts let me choose any of those four sighting options to suit my intended purpose and instal or remove the optic in seconds.
I also have a few other conventional scopes equipped with ARMs mounts that I can also use with an AR if desired although there isn't a lot of point to it as the other optics more than cover my needs and IMO are the best optics available for the AR15.
To be blunt, if you don't have a flat top and you arn't using state of the art mounts, you are missing out on one of the best things about the AR15 as well as one of the best firearms inventions in the recent past. Finally, someone punched in and made a stardard rail that you can mount anything and everything to. What were people thinking for all those years of having specific scope mounts for every specfic gun with half a dozen different versions depending on who made the mount ? That was so stupid. And, unfortunately, most gun owners are still buying into it because they won't spend the money to get top of the line gear like LaRue mounts.
Sorry, I don't do pictures.
