Here are some recently finished "minor project" carry guns.

This one is the Colt Defender I picked up a few weeks ago. The Hogues have been replaced by McCormick rosewood grips with hex head screws, the factory sights went out in favor of Meprolite night sights, and the sloppy Colt factory trigger had to make space for a Wilson aluminum trigger.

Leather is a Galco Side Snap Scabbard.

Here's a Kimber Compact that needed no alterations out of the box except for a set of Meprolites. The STI trigger was already on the gun when I got it.

A CCO-stype 1911 has been near the top of my shopping list for a while now...the Commander-sized slide and Officer-sized frame are a great combo for a carry piece. The frame on the Kimber is steel, not the alloy I wanted, but I guess I ought to be glad I found a used one at all.

Leather is a Galco NSAII.

I really like that Kimber Compact.

IMO, that setup is the perfect compromise for a carry 1911. Even with the alloy frame on my CCO, it's still big and weighty enough to be very controllable with 45ACP, yet is light and compact enough to ride in it's Milt Sparks IWB holster very comfortably all day long. It's also got a decent sight radius and barrel length.

You should try some of the thin Alumagrips on it. I got a set on mine and it really made a big difference in carry comfort, yet it didn't make it any more difficult to shoot (although it did feel "funny" at first, I got used to the thin grip quickly).

My Kimber

I bought this all steel Kimber Compact (not II) new almost three years ago. I have replaced most the internals with parts from C&S, Wilson and Videcki, and had my gunsmith install the Novaks. It is 100% reliable, as accurate as my 5" Colts and extremely concealable.
