Completed a 9mm PCC! Now to aim it?

Riomouse/Buzznrose: Do you gentlemen find you lose zero on your red dot Rugers, after you take them down?
This may have been discussed previously, but Ruger's habit of putting its aperture sight on the barrel is a puzzler.
Thanks,
Moon
Update post range…

So the red dot I thought would work is a no go. Not the optics fault, I think is just how I am using it. I want this gun to be capable of use by several folks, and the pistol sight just isn’t designed to be used this close up to one’s eye.

I am going to try a simple 1X dot like a SPARC…

More to follow….

Ended up ordering this:

I’ve had great success with Swampfox. They are “Chineseium” but company is vet owned in CO.

I look forward to seeing how well it works.

RIOMOUSE, any suggestions on placement? I see yours is close to the pivot point.

I also didn't mean to say that prism sites can't be serious. as you see, I clearly do like them. Like everything else, stuff has advantages and disadvantages. I have a bit of astigmatism myself.
I’ve never tried one. I have pretty bad astigmatism myself. My red dots are red “bursts”….are prisms much better? Are yours magnified?

I have both. I have 2 1x Vortex Spitfires, and 2.5 and 3x PA prisms, a Burris 3X Prism, and a IOR Valdada 3x prism.

RDS usually have some "burst" to them, for me, though some are better than others. Prisms can be adjusted so your sight picture is clear.

What case is that???
It’s a 20” Ridgid toolbox from Home Depot, the foam is a Kaisen Foam insert that is made to fit in the case. I cut the foam to hold the rifle and three 33 round magazines. (Or two mags and the sling.)

I got the idea from a THR member a couple of years ago, I just can’t remember who it was to give the credit to.

I have a Smith and Wesson M&P FPC which I'm probably putting an Aimpoint Micro H2 on. Though I like the Eotech EXPS2 it seems that maybe it'll be a little too bulky. I'm going to borrow a friend's to try it out. Doubtful, but maybe I'll change my mind.

I went out this morning to buy that case. I think it’s been redesigned to add an indent for carrying the case. My rifle wont fit due to the indent. Sucks! It’s a nice case.

Rats! 😩

If you can’t find an older style case on eBay or Amazon, maybe a Milwaukee or other hard case with similar internal dimensions will work.

Good luck finding one.

You have plenty of rail space to move it forward and give it another try before throwing in the towel for good.

The red dot has really come into its own in the last several years. I've got a bunch of SIG red dots, over a dozen at last count. Every flavor including the big Romeo7, several 4's and the little reflexes. The Romeo5 is ridiculous for what it costs. If I'd bought it first, I'd probably have a lot fewer of everything else. I love the MOTAC function. Also good ones from Primary Arms, Holosun, Bushnell, obviously Trijicon, EOTech and Aimpoint are the premium choices.

The prisms also have a lot going for them but as has been stated, they have some concessions as well. The main selling point is the etched reticle that is not dependent on battery power. Some of us old sticks in the mud still worry about battery failure in the field. I have them in 1x, 3x, 4x and 5x. The 1x is the direct competitor to the red dot. It will have the most generous eye box but it still has an eye box. As magnification goes up, the eye box shrinks. If you're running fast, that is going to be an area of concern. If I'm using a 4x or 5x, I like to couple them with a reflex on a 45° mount for up close, fast work. It's very easy and natural to simply roll the rifle over and switch to the reflex and they weigh almost nothing.

I have to post pics. A good clone of the Aimpoint T1 is probably the best thing since sliced bread. I think this is a PA.

Definitely a Romeo4.

But the prisms are making inroads for me. This is the 1x PA.

Their 3x.

The Mac Daddy of prims, the ACOG 4x will be swapped from this .300Blk.

To this 6.5Grendel and coupled with a Leupold DeltaPoint, which currently wears a Vortex 5x.

The FDE 3x PA will go from this 5.56 to the .300Blk above. The Romeo5 is already in place. Yes, I know I need therapy.

I like the Romeo 5 a lot, but I prefer the Athlon's ability to use AAA batteries, for the same cost.

Now, the Romeo 5X does use AAA, but it runs about $50 more than the standard Romeo 5.
