I guest some people have not read 166.370 (Possession of firearm or dangerous weapon in public building; EXCEPTIONS; discharging firearm in at school.

(D) A person who is licensed under ORS 166.291 and 166.292 to carry a concealed handgun.

Yes you can carry a handgun in a school if you are licensed. I carry a copy of this law article in wallet. A couple of years ago I spent over an hour talking to the Oregon Marion County Sheriff second in command at the Salem down town office and he could not tell me if it was legal or not, and he couldn’t find the law act: 166.370 (D). I then went up to the third floor law library and found it. Bottom line is I did my research and got a copy of the law from the Salem Marion County law office or court house.

Just maybe of some fully trained, licensed, responsible teachers were caring in schools they just might of stopped some of the murders or killing in the resent years.

PS: It is about time we held all people responsible for their actions. If I had my way you would see all child molesters shot or set on fire, on the six o’clock news.

Isn't their a big movement among the gun haters to change that in Oregon

isn't it federal law that says you can't carry a firearm into a school without prior approval from school officials?

No. As I recall, if your CCW is issued after a backgroung check and your state allows carry in a school, you're good to go - exempt from the federal restrictions.

Teachers can't carry because they'd lose their job, not because it is illegal...same as in most workplaces.:(

And if I remember right, Burdick is running for the Multnomah County Commissioners or something like that.

Actually, it was Portland City Council, and she got spanked on that as well:

From the Election results:

City of Portland

Portland, Oregon
[edit]

Council Position 2 (incumbent: Sten)

won in primary:

* Erik Sten (MD) (endorsed by Willamette Week)

lost in primary:

* Emilie Boyles (MD)
* Ginny Burdick
* Dave Lister

Burdick is pure evil. Fortunately, she has about as much power as I do in lawmaking. Here's the list of guns she wants banned http://oregonfirearms.org/Burdicksbannedguns.html
Looks a lot like California's list.
These people equate guns with evil and violence. Anyone who carries a firearm (or owns one, for that matter) is out looking go to on a shooting spree in their minds. You can tell them the facts but that will only confuse them. Sometimes you can't fix stupid.

I don't know what the problem is in Oregon, but teachers and other school employees can carry in Utah. I know at least two of the largest school districts altered their policy to disclaim any responsibility or liability if an employee's firearm was used on school property.

Oddly enough, even in my heavily blue state the way the law is written suggests to me that as a CCW holder I can carry on school grounds, and no need to ask permission from the administration.

However, knowing how anti- the state Attorney General is, I would prefer not to become the test case.

In my Oregon CCW class, at the Oregon Firearms Academy, taught by retired cops, I was told that it is legal to carry in Oregon schools with a CCW, but the school may have a policy against it, as the Universities probably do. They can ask you to leave but that's all, there is no force of law behind it, you can simply be trespassed if discovered.

as near as i can tell

there is nothing formenting over carry in schools in Oregon.

In fact, since the left wingers here in PDX started pulling their heads out of the **ses--we can see their chins now!, nothing much has happened legislatively at all.

Of course, part of that is that Burdick tried to curry favor with her employer and run for city council. And subsequently was flogged like a recalcitrant mule.

Ahhh...our glorious state. Slowly turning back to it's rural roots. Bit. By. Agonizingly slow. Bit.
