In this thread we will investigate the use of Man Bags, Fanny Packs etc for concealed carry purposes. Join in the fun.

As a hiker, camper, walker I am fascinated with methodologies other than the traditional holster/IWB/OWB carry.

Now here is a method that allows the effective carry of a concealed weapon and other gear but scares me just abit.

SmartCarryV.jpg

I think you know where this is headed. :what:

smartcarry.jpg

Hence although this method does allow potential for the carry of personal items it does bring new meaning to cocked and locked carry.

An exception to this application would be this perfectly acceptable example of the female methodology of concealed, well almost, carry.

Unless I am totally wrong the Pale Horse version of the Man Bag is a state of the art example where a holster is actually mounted in the bag with quick release zippers. Those of you who haven't seen this "holster" in action can witness its blazing speed potential here.

Here is the link to the Pale Horse Ron Graham Tactical Nylon Line.

Taking things to a bit of an extreme, I really like this concept and will probably purchase one of these for trail carry. The potential is readily apparent.

Orvis Safe Passage Chest Pack. I see some real potential with this one for day trips. Probably not good for suburban strolls unless you are on the Homeowners Association Rules Enforcement Tactical Committee. :p

My favorite for general purpose (so far) use is the Nite Ize Hip Pock-Its. Versatile Carry All.
3 ways to carry. Standard belt. Tool belt/backpack waist strap or included dedicated waist belt. This a nicely manufactured ballastic nylon Man Bag that no one is going to give you any crap about. :neener:
Would also work nicely as a small Zombie Bug Out Bag.

Dang you say, that is a Manly looking get-up.
Wonder what's in that little devil?

Holy Shiznit, lookey thar. :what: Why it's mister L Frame 686 .357.
That's what I am talking about.

P3200056-1.jpg

A four inch would easily fit.

P3200003.jpg

This bag will eat up a bunch of speed strips or loaders plus a plethora of other essentials, like a GPS, small first aid kit etc.

P3200052.jpg

Flashlight is a Dorcy 1 watt Luxeon from Wal Mart. 3AAA.

In summary this Man Bag is comfortable even fully loaded (pardon ;) with a heavy frame and ancillary gear.

A smaller version for trips to the Magic Kingdom or Home Depot might look something like this Nite Ize Clip Case Side Office.

P3200006.jpg

Optionally Equipped With S&W Model 642 Snub Nose and Gold Dot +P 135s.

P3200010.jpg

Yeah, yeah yeah, that looks good around the house how do I walk into Homey with it?

P3200013.jpg

Nylon Cover completely covers to keep prying eyes :scrutiny: outa your goods.

For those who prefer a bottom feeder a Kahr PM 9 fits nicely.

P3200024.gif

Flashlight is a Nuwai QIII 3 Watt Luxeon LED from Amondo Tech. 1 CR123A.

Well there you have it. If you have anything to add along these lines I am most interested.

I think i'll pass on the man bag idea for now....I've tried a fanny pack in the past and just decided it looks way wrong.:barf:

The Wilderness SafePacker looks like it would be ideal for what you are wanting, but not look so bad.

If you don't care what others think about you then any of the above methods will work, they just might not look to manly.

I really don't think you would be very fast at retrieving your gun, in a belly band with it supporting your beer belly though.:D

I use the Maxpedition Jumbo Versapack. It's a great bag with a military look to it. I don't mind carrying it around and I can pack any of my handguns in it's holster from large frame to sub-compact. There is plenty of room for extra mags, phone, keys, knife, light, etc.

GunNut-

Sure would be fun drinking enough beer to acquire and maintain a fine speciman such as that belly. Mine has never gotten to that point fortunately, but sometimes it hasn't been for not trying.

Nice. Thanks for sharing the over the shoulder military desert looking Man Bag. Looks like that thing will carry a serious load. I like it!

I went looking for the versapack bag by the way and look what I found, holy bagshiznit Batman. Tactical bags by the boatload. Thanks again.
Now I can stop re-inventing the bag so to speak. I had no idea.

I like pouch carry for urban and field use. Keeps things concealed yet handy in town and clean and protectected in the field. I prefer to use pouches made for digital camers or pda's. They are plentiful at electronics stores and office supply stores. These as especially useful since others see the logo on the pouch and never give it another thought. They think it is a camera. I usually carry my cell phone in the outside zipper pocket which further "disarms" the appearance of the pouch. I carry my AMT Backup in 40S&W (almost identical in size to the Kahr MK40) and 2 spare mags and sometimes a small flashlight in a pouch that looks too small for a gun. These types of pouches as usually well under 20 dollars and sometimes the smaller ones are under 10. All mine are made of cordura nylon and are virtually indestructable.

I really like the looks of some of the pouches above as well, especially for field carry.

I have thought about getting some of the bags posted here. But, if you are carrying bag of some type and get robbed/ held up, isn't the BG going to either snatch it or take it from you at gun point? I have seen our threads that tell ladies to not carry a handgun in a purse for that reason.

I suppose for outdoor use (meaning camping, hiking, climbing, etc...) any number of man bag type of products would be fine. I just think that in an urban/city setting, anybody walking around with a fanny pack, Maxpedition pack etc...just looks so silly. To each his own, but its just not my style. I would rather lose weight and make room for IWB, carry on my ankle, or in my pocket than look like a freak on a leash with a bag.

You folks should also look to messanger bags by Eddie Baure...I have two from outlet stores. Both look professional and not even close to being an obvious conceal carry option. Either will hold a full size auto, speare mag or two and flachlite ..All nicely concealed and even open to say get your wallet, both have divided compartments. The one I've even put a 8-1/2 x 10 " ballistic insert.

I look for bbags like you have displayed and can usually tell that you are caring..If I can so can the bad guy...Just my two cents

Be safe

I also have a Dell laptop bag, took it over to my buddies place and he asked why I brought a computer when we were going shooting. I opened up the bag and showed him what was inside ;)

A past Chief of Police in my little town walks through my neighborhood every morning. He wears a "man bag" up front. I know what I think he carries in there and it sure ain't cookies.

Deputy teaching my CCW class said "If you have a mullet and rockin the fanny pack we know you are carrying." Didn't say anything about a fanny pack and not having a bad haircut though.

DeSantis Gun Caddie

http://www.desantisholster.com/n58.htm

It has a "hidden" rear gun compartment, large enough for a Glock 26 or 27. I can put my G26 in the back, and fit cell phone, keys, etc. in the front compartment. The front compartment is a little bigger, so if I want to carry my HK USP Compact, it fits in the front, but no room for much else.

I like the looks of the Camelbak Goblin. I may just get one.
As far as worrying about what others think of how I look or what I have in my bag-forget it!
I stopped worrying years ago, since I have more important things to focus on.

Here's one of mine.....Wilderness SafePacker.....

safepacker_1911.jpg

I really like the Pale Horse one as it really looks like a camera bag.;)

I have a Bianchi fanny pack type as well but don't use it much since getting the SafePacker...now before anyone gets all nasty about fanny pack carry...I live in Illinois :barf: and it's the only way to carry...(legally)...

When I'm hiking or camping I wear loose fitting cargo shorts or pants, and I keep my snubbie in my right front pocket.

Seconded on the Safepacker. You can put a shoulder strap on it and carry it like a purse. I can deal with the fact that it looks like a purse, because I know what's inside...

There's also the Camelbak Goblin:

I use it for running. The water hose makes it inconspicuous.

If I were to ever fall off the deep end and become a criminal, everybody wearing a fanny pack would get WHACKED. IMO nothing screams I HAVE A GUN more than a fanny pack, except for maybe a photographers vest.

Immediately after Texas got CHL, I was standing in line at a movie theatre. In front of me stands an old geezer wearing a fanny pack, with a wallet in his back pocket, a pack of Marlboro Reds in one shirt pocket, and an eyeglass case and a couple of pens in the other shirt pocket. The first thought that came to mind was, "I wonder what kind of gun he has in that fanny pack". :)

I think an Airweight type revolver in a pocket or IWB is a much better choice than any of the various man purses.

Just my .02,

A couple things:

SmartCarry doesn't work if you have a penis which still works. For that matter, boxers don't help much in that department, either. Also, it's not the most comfortable thing to walk around in; I don't care what they say, it's that much added padding right where you want to scratch.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but... If Jack Bauer can do it, then I can do it. Well, not exactly, but:

jack-bauer-in-action.jpg

That really is a pretty handy getup, and my 2nd preferred method of carry (IWB being preferred due to it being unobtrusive) The only down side I've run into so far is that it's a bit cumbersome if you're getting in or out of a low-sitting vehicle - ie, pretty much anything but a truck or SUV. I usually take my bag off and set it beside me as I get into the car because of this, but the extra necessary movements are a bit irritating. It is the most comfortable way to carry, though (beats open carry IMO).

They (someone out there) make a weird under-arm purse type thing, too - it's crescent shaped, and goes cross shoulder, with the strap tension being tight enough to not bounce about. I've seen running types wearing them while out on runs... going to have to look into one, because it doesn't look like a holster. it might be easily disguiseable. :)
