Any recommendations? I know, it makes it "obvious" I am carrying right? Well here's the thing: I wear one of these often anyway. Have for years. My father wore a photojournalist vest pretty much every day of his life that he wasn't wearing a suit and tie. So nobody around me will even notice the difference.

If you like, more power to you!

My only recommendations would be to avoid a fishing vest and make sure it's an actual photographers vest, as the ones used for fishing seem to be cut shorter.

If I may offer two alternatives, you may want to check out scottevest. They make jackets and vests with a lot of pockets that look like normal jackets. My dad has had a couple and loves them, and I'll probably snag up the leather coat if they ever make one again.

Also, you might be happier getting a regular medium weight vest from good will, and sewing some pockets on the inside that are sized to fit your magazines or cliff bars or what have you, inside of letting the factory pocket arrangement dictate placement.

Either way, I think Google is probably going to be your best friend here.

Just from food for thought: the people that know you may not think it's anything other than carrying on the family photography tradition, but I think most of the concern is about being shot first by people that don't know you during some kind of robbery, or being targeted because you are believed to have either a gun or expensive cammera gear. If you've done your threat assessment and think that's a reasonable risk, then rock on :)

5.11 tactical....

5.11 Tactical is the most common brand for "CCW vests" or concealment gear. ;)

Some gunners & hard-chargers say you might stick out or be profiled but in 2015, that's highly unlikely in my humble opine :D .
Most people are either staring at smart phones or distracted by a 100 other things to see your concealment vest or 5.11 garment.

There are a few other brands and styles out there now too depending on your tastes & budgets.

There's really no way to really know one way or the other, but I think this concern is vastly overblown. Same with fanny packs. As long as you're not flashing gun-related logos on them I have no worry about wearing vests (I've got a couple winter vests for cool weather and a photographers/fisherman's vest I sometimes wear in warmer weather.

Robbery...

A real robbery will go down in seconds, what you are wearing or your actions may not be a factor in these critical incidents.
A thug with a gun or some strung out drug addict doesn't stop look over at you then say; hey, that's a snazzy 5.11 vest  .
Watch real armed robbery actions on Youtube.com . They are quick and chaotic  .

You will need a nice Hat and probably an good looking pipe also:)

I carry a fanny pack, but guess where the gun is? In my pocket with my hand on it, if it needs to be. I think it makes for a good distraction, and also leaves my pockets free for my knife in one and 9mm in the other.
A bad back makes carrying anything in the back pocket impossible so my keys wallet, cell etc go in the pack.
The one I carry is a brand name, Ka-Bar but has no writing or insignia on it. It's small and the gun goes into the belt part, so it's deceiving. I find that it is much more comfortable if you have a bad back, to have nothing in your back pockets. It also has 2 small pouches on it for magazines or a small phone or badge.

Fall and winter, I ware fleece vests. Got one in just about every color.

I like the elastic draw strings at the bottom to prevent it from riding up over the holster.

They are quite common up here in L. L. Bean land

I ride a motorcycle probably more than average. At a rally, I saw a guy with American made leather vests he claimed he made and marketed for concealed carry. It has extra deep pockets that do hold a gun just right. Seemed like a good idea. I bought one, wore that week, brought it home and stuck it in the closet where it had hung ever since.

I pack something in my cut like Python Elite described . Before that used the inside pocket on an Averex Goat Skin B2 jacket for decades and it worked well mostly Colt D frames or S&W J frames but will conceal a Colt Commander!

The Rothco Vest

I would add that the Rothco vest is well ventilated in back with mesh & open areas. You can also leave it open in the front & still not have any concealment issues. I am getting used to it & think it will be a really good fit.

Please watch out, there have been recent accounts of the elastic drawstring becoming lodged in between a holster and trigger, causing a negligent discharge.

I don't use any of the tactical or photography looking vest that tend to be a give away imo.

Like others, I like to use Fleece vest with IWB holsters. From Columbia, Orvis, NorthFace and even the wool vest Filson makes. They all work well. Wind breaker Golf slip overs (they make them in all kinds of fabrics and colors) in long sleeve and vest style work well too with wool gabardine slacks, khakis and jeans.

I've been wearing a vest for over 50 years. I don't carry a gun in the vest, but under it.

I don't seem to draw much attention.

cabelas was selling a great one a while back. don't know if they still are. Doesn't look tactical but it has multiple huge pockets and several smaller ones. It is marketed as a tactical vest and has two magazine pockets and a gun pocket but they are well hidden and easy to get to. I mainly use it for travel as it can hold about as much as a small carry on if i don't mind being weighed down a bit
Edit: they do still sell it. They are calling it a performance tactical vest but it is pretty low profile in my experience

2x

I have found that 2x carhartt pocket tshirt works good for me
sob sholder holster upside down or oswb just what works for me
