Wandered into the local gun shop yesterday, and while browsing the racks, came across a Savage 11 TH in 6.5 Creedmore. Such a new rifle isn't in the budget right now, but had my WASR-10/63 with me, and was offered only 25 bucks less than i paid 5 years and hundreds of rounds ago, for it on trade....and in that time, I never did convince myself to love it like I wanted to. the Creedmore round seems perfect for hunting here in SD, where coyotes, mule deer, and whitetails....sometimes at range...are the typical quarry. The trade definitely brings the Savage into my budget, and the trade seems like a no-brainer to me, but thought i'd see how y'all felt about it....

If a WASR AK-47 doesn't offer anything practical to you and the Savage bolt gun does then I say go for it.

Although you are offered a trade in value close to what you paid five years ago, the price of AKs has gone up considerably in that time. Were I in your shoes, I'd do a little research on the current value of the 10/63 and based on that information consider selling it privately and paying cash for the Savage. I do understand the convenience of the trade you describe, and the possibility the Savage might sell while you mess with the AK.
I know a bit about WASRs as I bought mine at the absolute top of the market and could have saved $100 if I'd waited a few months. I think the 10/63 version is more desirable and therefore higher priced than the newer guns now readily available.

I too am in yote deer country and mid-long range bolt guns definitely get plenty of use around here. The 6.5 brings beautiful bc and plenty of sectional density to the game for your purposes. The .260 and 6.5 cm are adequate with velocity for those purposes. If it trips your trigger, then go for it! Savage is nothing to be ashamed of. That same model is available in another cartridge that would also be worth looking at but only if you crave more speed, since you don't specify whether or not that's truly an issue, I'll throw it out there just for awareness purposes but with the recognition that the 6.5 cm would do quite nicely. 6.5-284 Norma (handloading because ammo is expensive) will tack some extra fps on the back end of those pills. Each of the kids will soon be acquiring .260 and cm that I'll "borrow for testing" quite often but I've fallen for the Norma ballistics lol. There are plenty of reasons to pick the cm over the Norma, just wanted to put it out there for ya

If you have a gun that you no longer want, and are offered more for it than it is worth to you, and that offer gets you to a place where you can afford something that you really want, but could not otherwise afford, I would say go for it. I would, though, agree to check current market value on both guns to make sure that it is close to what is being offered and asked. But, I would also expect the LGS to expect to make a profit out of the deal.

If I wanted something to reach out and touch something, the Creedmoor would be a no-brainer. I have been playing with three rifles in 6.5 CM this year. This was a comparison of sorts. I have a Vanguard, Bergara B-14, and a Ruger American Predator. I really like the Bergara. It is a nice piece of equipment, but the Ruger shoots rings around it. Took a couple of deer at 275 and 357 yards, and blew a hole the size of a softball out of a coyote. I would like to try a Savage in the CM. The two Model 10's that I have now, a 300 WSM and 243 shoot very well.

That would be no brainer for me. Getting a sub MOA rifle for a 5 MOA rifle, even-steven. Heck, that AK would have looked like a hot potato in my hands
I would do little research into value of the AKM before doing the trade. There is no pressure because if 6.5 Creedmore sells you can always buy 7-08 or .308 instead. There are plenty of them out there.

Would the LGS be willing to add some "throw-in's" like ammo, to offset the perceived value of your WASR? Does not hurt to ask, if not, then I would trade straight across for the CM. You seem to have more use for and desire it.

I sold a Lee-Enfield that I loved and a RIA 1911 to fund my 6.5CM. I now have a Savage Stealth with a Vortex Viper on top of it that'll get more use than those 2 ever did. Both went to good gun-loving homes that shoot them frequently.
I may still do the trade, but found out i'm due to acquire several more firearms in the near future, as my uncle passed unexpectedly, and left me his entire collection, as well as all ammo, reloading equipment, and ''gun-related items''. while i don't have an exact inventory as to whats included yet, i'm aware of a Savage 300, or possibly 338, win mag....an sks...an ar-15....a mini-14... a 303 enfield, .a colt commando 38 snubnose, and quite possibly my grandfather's savage 99 in 22. hi-power. i know there are a couple other long guns as well, and a llama 9mm as well. while i am still very interested in the trade, this acquisition through unfortunate means may satisfy my gun lust for a bit, depending on when exactly the estate is settled and i can take them home...... Thank you dear uncle...I'll treasure them always

has anyone shot the ''American Whitetail'' 129 gr interlock loading from Horandy in 6.5? ordered 100 rounds yesterday, and figure worst case scenario ill have brass to work with in the future. i don't currently reload, but that will likley be changing as well,as i also inherited my uncle's equipment. while i know very little about it, i'm eager to learn.
Effective, nothing fancy, cheap enough to see if your gun likes it, functional enough to take the invincible mule deer, have used it in other cartridges and does what it's designed for.
