I'm going to have a Bearcat built for my 2 year old daughter. Alan Harton seems to be the go-to for Bearcats, so I'll likely go that route though I'd love to do as much of the build as I can.

I love the look of octagon barrels and wondered if whoever builds it could take a tapered octagon Contender .22 barrel and install the last 5 inches on the Bearcat.

I would imagine the taper could make the ERH installation more interesting but at least the front sight setup would be easy.

Any foreseeable problems? Anything like this been done before?

Other question, for a blued gun what's the best variation of the Bearcat to start with?

It would be far easier, and much less expensive, to have your gunsmith buy an octagon .22RF barrel blank. All that would be involved would be to turn and thread the shank, mount a front sight, and provide for the ejector tube.

Also you might consider the soon-to-be-forthcoming Bearcat with adjustable sights.
