How big A job is converting A saiga to pistol grip? I have never messed with AKs. A friend wants to buy one thinking i will do the work for him.

It's actually really easy, can be done in under 3 hours with basic hand tools. If you have something like a small drill press or dremel, it's even easier.

Everything you need can be found here: http://www.dinzagarms.com/
Dinzag has every part you need to do the conversion.
If you want to price shop a little, you can find one or two parts for less here:

It's a great project and you end up with a new gun, not something cobbled together from mil-surp parts.

Lastly, the forearm on the saiga is a little plain, some people like it, some want something different. I highly recommend this one as I've used it on many builds. It fits perfectly, is comfortable to hold and has a tactical use if needed: http://centerfiresystems.com/saigatacticalrifleforearmpartsai-forearm-rifle.aspx

Good luck.

Oh, one last thing. You're going to need to drill some rivets. Get cobalt drill bits. Trust me, nothing else will get thru those rock-hard Russian rivets.

I've converted 3 saiga rifles, and a 12ga shotgun - even the first time didn't take me more than an hour and a half (going slow) - The last one I did took me around 45 minutes. It's not difficult if you're a handy person, or at all familiar with mechanical devices.

Tagged, thanks.

I plan on doing this as well.

A basic pistol grip conversion is IMHO a very easy job and well within just about anyone's ability.

With the help of my brother-in-law and his shop of tools, I converted mine. The G2 trigger is FAR greater than the stock trigger. . . and I bet the russians hate every one of those blasphemous trigger groups they have to put in their rifle to make the U.S. Government happy.

I managed to keep the bolt hold open on my conversion. Nice for ranges that require bolts to be open on "cease fire".
