I was reading the article in this months American Rifleman about the L42 and got me to thinking about a project. Last year a guy gave me a No.4 Mk I rifle with no magazine and a bore that looked like a sewer pipe. Is there someone that could put an appropriate bolt head, magazine, and barrel on this rifle to convert it to .308. I have tons of .308 reloading stuff and it is my caliber of preference so this would be really high in cool factor for me. Let me know if you have any ideas.

Personally, I think that you would spend more re-barrelling the Mk.4 to .308 than you would spend on an Ishapore 2A1.

I picked up mine, with terrible wood, for $80, and then turned it into a "poor man's Scout Rifle" for less than $300 total expenditure.

Years ago, somebody in England (Parker-Hale, maybe) sold the whole kit, barrel, magazine and all, and some were imported here. But I have not seen these for a long time, and I don't know of anyone making a .308 barrel for the No. 4. Having one made from a barrel blank would cost many times the value of the rifle.

Perhaps someone in Canada could help, or P-H could provide the name of an importer. If you want to spend bucks, they have a phone number on their web site.
