Is it much trouble to have a DA/SA semi auto converted to a DAO by a gunsmith? I expect to pick up a Bersa 83 some time soon, mainly because I can't pass up the deal. I prefer trigger pulls that are consistent shot to shot, and am contemplating such a conversion if it's possible or practical. The safety on a Bersa also functions as a decocker in its stock form, so that part is covered.

Don't believe it would be that easy. For the cost to do the mod you could probably buy another DAO pistol. I guess if Bersa made a model 83 that was DAO maybe just fitting a DAO slide to your frame.

The only way I'd do something like that is if the gun manufacturer made the same gun in both DAO and DA/SA models and I could just swap parts to go from one to the other.

Doing a little grinding so that the hammer isn't held back wouldn't be hard at all. But I doubt that DA/SA guns were designed to have the hammer ride home with the slide and I'm guessing that you could wind up with a slam fire, a series of slam fires and possibly a blown up gun and damaged hand.

Then again, it might just work fine, but why take the chance? I also doubt you'd find a smith willing to do the work, unless he's done it before and knows it's not dangerous on that particular gun.

I'd suggest you call the factory and see what they say, but I already know what they'll say, "Don't do it!".

Sell the DA/SA gun and buy a DAO gun.
