Rhineland on the falfiles chambers the FAL in all kind of crazy stuff. He's a master.
I can't see an FAL in 9mm though. Seems like you get an awfully heavy package for the cartridge you're shooting. If you're looking for a 9mm in a "military" package, hard to go wrong with an upper for and AR. Unless you get a 9mm purpose-built rifle like a Storm, HK, etc.

Are you asking for advice on an FAL in general or on a 9mm conversion specifically? If 9mm, see my comments above.
If in general, it depends on what you want. Is a FAL better than an AR? Dunno, is a SUV better than a sports car? Yes and no...they're built for different things as are the FAL and AR (or comblocs...assuming you are using this to describe an AK).

The primary reason I have my 9mm AR is that it gives me cheap practice in a platform that is very similar to my 5.56 ARs. I just can't afford to shoot my 5.56 ARs as much. The typical distances that I practice with are about the same as I would use my AR, approximately 100 meters and under, with emphasis on 15 - 25 meter targets.
I see the FAL as a main battle rifle designed to engage targets at a bit longer distance, 100 meters or more. I certainly would think twice about using it for CQB work. With this in mind, it would be hard for me to justify a 9mm FAL.
On the other hand you would be one of the few guys on the block to have such a novelty.

One of my next FAL purchases will be one with the interchangeable barrel system. I could really appreciate a FAL in .458 SOCOM.
BTW, FALs are pretty much idjit-proof once you get it assembled correctly. That should be enough to convince you to buy one.

If you look on www.falfiles.com there is a guy that posts under the name Meeper. He does all sorts of neat caliber conversions to FALs. I also believe he has a removable barrel version also.
Rhineland arms also does 9mm conversions. Masterpiece arms does .45 ACP conversions but may also do 9mm, I cant remember.
