Copper plated bullets

I am thinking about getting some Ranier copper plated 180 grains for my .40 S&W. I was just wondering what experience people have had with these. Are these less likely to lead foul a barrel, more likely to copper foul, less likely to copper foul?

I run Rainier Plated 230gr RN bullets in my XD45 Tactical. I think I'm at 1500 of these down range and another 550 loaded and ready to go this weekend. Fouling is virtually non-existent, at least none that isn't removed by a boresnake. Accurate enough for my taste! Cheap enough too and I never handle exposed lead. It's also locally purchasable. Win, win, and more win

Unfortunately for me it is not locally available. I would have to go to Midway, but hardcast lead and cheap FMY aren't locally available either. The Ranier 180 grain .40 are just as cheap on Midway as the hardcast lead

I reload plated only (local LGS range rules) no negative issues at all. No leading or fouling.

I have tried the 500 ct box of rainers I got on sale from midway. My impression is that the berrys are a better bullet. It seems that the copper plating on the rainers is thinner. I dont know for sure but I did have some leading with them and found out the the plating is comming off when fired and exposing lead. I have loaded several thousand of the berrys loaded similar and have not had any problem. I will also recomend powder valley as they have the lowest price that I have found at around 91.00 for a thousand for the berrys.

I've shot several hundred of the ranier in .380 with no leading, on top of about 3.6 gr of unique. If they are leading then backing off a couple tenths should help.

One fallacy about the plated bullets is that they reduce the lead in the air a lot. While I'm sure they do to some extent, modern primers are still made with lead styphnate, which is probably where a lot of your lead exposure will come from.

I have been using Rainer's for several years @ they do a very good job they are accurate & no lead vapors i use them in all of my handguns & my soon to be Handi Rifle in 500 S&W Magnum Great Bullet for the cost IMHO

I use Rainier in 9 mm & 357 mag w/ good results. I've used HSM 165 gr plated in .40 S&W with no issues. Rainier is a good product, with due diligence, you should be happy with the results.

Xtreme Bullets from TJC are a bit cheaper than Berry's but have thicker plating so they are closer to jacketed than lead as far as loading goes. Berry's are very soft bullets.

I use Berrys in 9mm, 40SW, 357Mag, and 45ACP, all of them have worked fantastic for me,a and will continue to use Berrys as much as possible. Talked with the man himself at teh NRA convention a few weeks ago... Them and Montana Gold and some XTPs are all I shoot now. I have shot some Rainer in the past, and didnt love them as much as I do Berry.

PS: The only slightly annoying thing is when you go to site, it opens with audio of rapid fire. It'll wake ya up if you volume level is decently loud.

if you look at tjconevera's site you will note that 115g double struck 9mm plated are $82/1K with free shipping, and 180 grain .40s are about 10 bucks cheaper than from berry's. No skin off my nose either way, but FYI.

The berry's guy is a site member and seems like a good guy. Buy direct from him and he may get a bit more dough in the long run.

I have some Berry's 124gr HP which I have loaded for 9mm. I have to seat them pretty deep for my CZ, but the 50 or so I've shot so far seem pretty decent. Im also loading this same bullet for 357 sig. It seems to have a good profile for 357 Sig. Using the exact same bullet for 2 different rounds is a big plus for me. I've loaded Berry's 9x18 Makarov round nose bullets which are great. I also bought some for .380 which I have not loaded up yet. Prior to Berry's I had some Rainier 124gr round nose that would get slightly flattened with m RCBS seating die. Another plated bullet I have used with great success is Zero plated bullets, 165gr .40 S&W. I really like the value of plated bullets and would highly recommend them to anybody.

I've used the Rainer plated bullets in 9mm Luger, .38 Special, and 7.62x25 (used their 110gr .30 carbine bullets on that). Never had any issues with them.

I bought 2000 of the 9mm bullets a good while back that I still haven't worked my way through, but once those are gone I'm probably going to buy more from Berry.
