I am thinking about doing some reloading and I have heard alot of hype about copper plating -vs- FMJ. What exactly are the differences and where can I get bullets for cheap?

You do not specify what caliber. But, being that you are in NE I would suggest you look at Cabelas. Shipping is based upon order size not wt. And, they have good prices on plated bullets ie Berry's or bulk bullets from Win or RP.

You have to decide what works for you? Do you need jacketed or plated bullets because of range rules? Or because of pistols ie HK or Glock?

You need to refine your wants!

I started with Ranier 115gr plated bullets - worked just fine, but I get slightly better accuracy with Remington 115gr bulk JHP. Some ranges may insist on total plated/total jacketed ammo, in which case the plated will probably be cheaper.

I get better accuracy with JHP.
If you buy 'em by the thousand they really aren't that much more money.

buy 500 of each and see what works best in your guns.

I find plated raniers work just fine in my 40 and 45. but the 9's seem to like FMJ better, not sure why but that is my experience, YMMV.

I used to buy Rainers. I have been switching my stock over to mostly Winchester or Remington FMJ. In my .357 and .44 I get some leading from the rainers when I get the velocities up there. In .40 and .45 it probably doesn't matter too much, but when buying in bulk, the name brand FMJ is only a couple bucks more per 1K, so I figure why cheap out?

Berry's

I have found the 9mm/124 gr HP Berry's is pretty accurate due to its really long skirt.

I really appreciate Cabelas low shipping costs where I live.

If anyone else has a source for low priced plated with low shipping costs, I would sure like to hear about it. I almost liked the sound of the Zeros, but I read where somebody had a problem with the jackets falling off when they hit the target.

Midway has a good selection of the Rainiers, but their shipping is high.
