I have just added a lead weight in my AR's stock, to counterbalance the heavy barrel's weight. My question is: for use in Service Rifle Comp., where on the rifle do you want the balance point to be? I am especially interested in it aiding in offhand shooting, and am planning on trimming the weight down until the proper balance point is reached. Thanks Guys-

I use a Colt 9 round magazine and rest the rifle, slung tight, with the magazine resting in the palm of my left hand with both elbows tight against the sides of my body for offhand shooting.
The balance point depends on your own style of hold, you may,or may not need buttstock weights or forend weights or both, I use none.
Everybody uses their own technique but this is a start.HTH

You'll probably have to eitehr wrap lead solder around the barrel or put stickon lead weights inside the handguard. A lead buttstock weight more than offsets a heavy barrel.

My SR is about 13 lb. It took me awhile to get the balance where it felt good for me. Mine balances somewhere between the barrel nut and the front of the trigger guard. Good balance really helps you hold you NPA during offhand stage.

Thanks 30, where do you place your weak hand (non-trigger hand) when shooting offhand?

I hang onto the barrel nut. There's lots of ways to do it--you'll have to find the one that allows you to put the front sight on the target.
