I was getting my Knight inline 12 gauge blackpowder shotgun ready for turkey season today and made a stupid mistake while cleaning.

In an effort to remove all carbon from the flash/priming hole I got a piece of cotton t shirt stuck in there pretty good. I don't have a piece of wire stuff enough to push it back out.

Any suggestions? Will soaking it in hoppes work? Keep busting caps until it burns out?

As always I should have been happy with what I had. Gun shot amazing patterns and was plenty clean. Then I went a step further and got cloth stuck in the flash hole.

Thanks,
HB

I always found a bent paper clip is pretty useful for cleaning debris out of a flash hole.

I tried a paper clip but either the cotton is too stuck or the hole is too small. Same deal with a needle but above all I don't want to break anything off in there.

Thoughts on burning it out?

How about just priming the pan and snapping it? The fire should burn out the stuck bit of cloth.

It is an inline but I'm thinking the same. 209s should fry whatever is in there and hopefully not cause it to get jammed further in the hole

Blow it out with caps.

Or, heat a paper-clip red hot with a propane torch and burn through it.

Then blow it out with caps.

In either case?

Blow it out with caps.

I can't see t-shirt cotton standing up to the flame & pressure from a cap very much longer then a mili- second after the first one goes off.

My bad. When the OP said "flash hole", I thought flintlock. But a cap/209 primer should do an even better job of blowing out the cloth.

Cotton will disintegrate if battery acid gets on it, followed by water. (don't ask me how I know)
I would remove the breech plug, then try to chemically remove it with the above action.

Ended up just soaking the breech plug in hoppes then blowing it away with 209s. First primer exploded but as always safety glasses and ear pro are a must.

Didn't want to do anything extreme as I believe these things aren't made anymore.

Regardless the gun shoots fine is about as much fun as possible in a shotgun. Once the boredom of summer sets in we'll see if I can hit some clays as dove season approaches.

Thanks,
