Coupons/Codes Am I Cheap ar Frugal?!?!?!?

I have in the last 6 months to a year have been using codes and coupons and some have been calling me cheap, am I or just wise to the dollar. I am a single dad of two and things aren't like they were 5 years ago.
Just this week I saved $20.00 and shipping on a $140.00 order from Midway and just this morning $6.00 and change on a $10.00 order thru Numrich. It took less then a minute to type their name in a search engine so what's the deal. Numrich I've been told has this discount everyday(different amounts). Just call to put in an order and they give you a code to do it on line or go tho their Facebook page and get a code. Midway was just a search for coupon codes.
I looked at it as a 15-20% Discount.
Just had to vent some is all.

The people who are calling you cheap are the people who, when reaching retirement age, faint with fear over the fact they don't have enough $$$ saved to live on.

Saving a dollar here and there only makes sense. Use coupons, shop sales, save 10%, tithe 10%, pay off any credit cards in full each month, etc. For more, check out Dave Ramsey. Google him.

I do that for everything I buy online if I can. Nothing wrong with that. Although some of the free shipping hooks have got me to buy $100 worth of stuff when I only needed $75 worth.

When using coupon/promotion codes online, I see it as compensation for the rediculous shipping charges. I understand hazmat charges, theres not much you can do about that. But generally online vendors seem to charge around double compared to actual costs.

If I can get 10% or whatever off, I'm going for it. Paying more for something when it provides no gain makes no logical sense.

I never purchase anything online without at least searching for some coupon/discount code. Sometimes they work, other times they don't.

Nothing better than saving money---except for getting new toys!

I've yet to purchase from midway without a code.

I swear, they start putting things on sale for 3 cents off just to spite me.

Saved almost $40 on my last order though- gotta love that.

Helps take some of the bite out of their price difference against their competitors which have better pricing, but vastly inferior service.

I just got a E-mail from Sportsmans Guide with a coupon that said if I purchased $125.00 worth of stuff they would knock off $15.00 of that purchase & give me a gift certificate for $15 dollars toward my next purchase.

I've used their codes too but they don't work for anything on sale.
And I've never seen a Midway free shipping code.

Why wouldn't you use them? I look and try to use then every time I shop. I only buy items in sale when grocery shopping. The sales come in weekly intervals so I'm on a good rotation at this point. Why wouldn't someone want to save money?

It is my money so I get to decide how I want to spend it, and I would feel pretty foolish paying more than I had too.
This doesn't come from anyone else, but from being a 75 year old CPA and seeing what people do with their money. As moxie said, lots of people don't do much looking ahead.

I have these coupons from Midway, Cabelas, and others. I slide them inbetween my reloading manuals along with other important stuff. Every once in awhile, I sort through them and curse! "I just ordered from Midway and here's that coupon they sent me several months ago!"

Back in it goes, probably to be forgotten again next time, or remembered only after the offer expires.

I raised my daughter all by meself, I know where you're at. It's tough. If tapping in a few characters or snipping a slip of paper helps save some dough, it probably helps to let you breathe easier. It is wisely frugal.

Go for it, brother. I rarely had the patience for couponing.

A long time ago I worked with a guy who was cheap. Occasionally we'd go out to eat for lunch, and he'd always try to suggest 1 bill split equally. Didn't take us long to figure out that he'd get the cheapest item on the menu if he was paying for himself, but on an equally split bill he didn't hesitate to get one of the most expensive items. He wanted to eat steak on someone else's dime. That's cheap.

Coupons are great. Wish I could get the grocery shopper to use them.

I happen to be stocked up on Reloading components now as well as reloaded ammunition unless I find another caliber to experiment with--and, realistically, I probably will die before I can shoot up all my ammo and components. So, I don't chase coupons in this area right now. But, I am in the spot of having outlived my 'adjusted' resources, and I am retired.

But, as an aside--

I am one of those people who clips coupons weekly for Target grocery shopping, and for my local 'High End' Grocery store because that store is on 'the route' for errands and not out of the way. The current IRS milage allowance is--is what, 52 cents mile?--but even with a subcompact car that gets about 25 mpg in exurban driving, that makes gasoline alone about 16 cents a mile right now. A cheaper grocery store (Cub) is out-of-the loop, period, and gas alone would be a minimum of $4.00 per visit or more....and my LGS, which I do buy from, is an equal nuisance drive--so the window shopping is online now.

I recently started buying more online from Amazon in the commodity-type buying I may need to do, or specialty interests. For example, I get most of my OTC drugs from Amazon--the price simply can't be matched, and careful shopping of the 'free-shipping' pricing saves driving for me as well--right now, I just figured out I am saving $20.00 a month on gasoline because of that. Note that I say careful shopping, simply because of the tricky pricing Amazon does with the same product for free / standard shipping. Always check the pricing both ways.

To not derail this conversation, we really should consider shooting items from Amazon--anyone use them?

I apologize I may have typed to fast for my brain. The free shipping statement was meant for the Numrich parts, it wasn't actually free the code I got was enough to cover the item's shipping plus some. Sorry for that that was my take.
How many times you see an item that's a good deal then you see a large shipping and handling charge.

There was a time, many years ago, when Midway shipped everything for free. Botach still does.

I have gotten alot of gun related items from Amazon with great prices and free shipping such as holsters and some reloading components. Next time you're shopping be sure to check Amazon as well.
