Not intended to be debate thread on DI vs piston operation. This discussion is for those decided in the affirmative of converting an AR to piston.

I read in a gun rag (can't remember which) that the Army was intending on converting thier current M4 fleet to piston operation.

I have been holding off on converting mine due to the lack of standardization of the different folks doing production rifles and conversion kits.

Mine are all DI right now because I can get parts (when they are in stock) all over the place.

Sooooo. Once DOD endorses and does the switch, assuming such parts will be available for us, will you convert?

No, my AR with DI has never hiccuped on anything I have put through it, so why change what is not broken. Lots of rounds between cleanings and a mix of steel and brass case, it is also very accurate.

That is simply not going to happen.

If the military does anything at all, it will be to replace every M16 / M4 in inventory as well as a gazillion dollars in spare parts, with a whole new rifle design.

But that is not going to happen in my lifetime either.

Why fix something that isn't broke?

And the DI M-16 / M4 design is certainly not broke.
