I just went down and looked in my Speer #14 reloading manual I forgot that i had it they also list a reddot load

What barrel length do you have? If it's a short barrel, 4.75, 5.5 inches, you're fine. Look in the .44 Special data, and you can choose virtually any fast or medium burning powder listed. Most of the loads are going to be reasonably accurate with virtually any of the powders. You can adjust your load up and down to give you the exact zero you'd have with full power magnum loads at close range.

If you have a 7.5 inch barrel the light loads are going to shoot way high with any bullet in the 240 grain weight. You'll run out of sight adjustment before you can bring the loads down. What I use for that barrel length is an NEI 180 grain wadcutter. It can be loaded down to the point that it's extraordinarily pleasant to shoot, and if you use .44 magnum brass, you have the advantage of knowing the load isn't full power at a glance. With the extra weight of the Super Blackhawk, shooting these loads is akin to shooting .38 wadcutters, except that with the heavier six-gun it's easier. This is the combination I use when I want to pretend I'm good. A relatively average close range group is a ragged hole.

Any 180gr to 250gr bullet in your 44mag cases
4.5gr to 5.0gr reddot
5.0gr to 5.5gr bullseye

5.0gr is an excellent load for either powder and a side bonus is while you have your powder throw setup for 5.0gr run off a bunch of plinking loads in the 357's (125gr to 170gr bullets) or 45acp's (185gr to 230gr).

For cowboy action, lite loads in the 44mag I've found nothing beats clays powder 6.0gr to 6.5gr of clays and bullets from 160gr to 240gr. I quit using bullseye after testing clays in different loads.

I'll never understand why when someone says they want a very light load in 44 Magnum brass someone always has to suggest 44 Special. He said 44 Magnum brass why even suggest it? Isn't that one reason why we reload? Getting a wide variety of uses out of one cartridge! Whether you load it with a case full of Trail Boss or H110. It's still a 44 Magnum.

I'm not opposed to using 44 Special brass I just don't have
I bought most of my pistols along time ago now I find that I have a lot more fun downloading them and shooting them more and it's not so much the recoil but the noise/ CRACK of a magnum that bothers me
Thanks for all of your help LD

7.5gr of Unique, 240gr coated LSWC in magnum cases makes for a nice shooting load. regular LPPs—no need for magnum.
