coyote hunting

OK. I am starting to coyote hunt. I have killed a number coyotes but not just because of purely coyote hunting but shooting them as scondary targets while deer hunting. So I am very new to coyote hunting. Much of my knowledge is internet based.

I live in SE WA state, desert area with roving hills and lots of sage brush. I have gone out many times before before sunrise and started calling them in with a rabbit caller. I choose the area that shows signs of coyote - tracks, open area near the river and near food plots. But not a single coyote shows up. My latest scouting area was a hilly area with a deep ravine/valley. The ravine is about 80 feet deep. AT the foot on the valley I saw paw tracks and even deer tracks. It looks like a good spot to "ambush". My plan is to lay probe on top of the hill to minimize my silhouete and call them in early morning just before sunrise.

But before I can actually go hunting on that spot, I am hoping to capture any coyote activity with a trail camera. What do you folks think about using the trail camera? Would it scare the coyotes away?

It will until they get used to the new smell of the camera & you putting it up.

Eventually they will come to accept it, but I doubt they will right from the get-go.

Maybe go to the same good places and keep quiet??

If they are using the trail enough to leave sign, you are scaring them away with your call.

It doesn't take a coyote very long to figure out that rabbit dinner with the very strange voice is just another human trying to kill him again!

They are WAY smarter then you might give them credit for.

I really believe cockroaches, ants, and coyotes will still inhabit the earth, long after we humans are gone.
