There is a firearm part hold on:

So its near finals and im trying to finish my projects and study around 4am. I go out and have a cig around our "Designated Smoking Section". Three of my friends were out there already and we're just shooting the ***** when some guy busts out of the side door, kicks the nearest bike rack. He sits down and tries to smoke a cigarrette but he cant because he's crying and trembling too much.

I didn't know the guy but apparently one of my friends did. Either way i pulled out my knife and kept it closed in my hand, no telling what crazy thing he would do. Then he stops trying to light his cig, slams the lighter on the floor which explodes, slams his blackberry pearl ($500 phone) on the ground which breaks into a million pieces. He then gets up and says "Yall can have my phone,im going to slit my wrists." So my friend that knew him starts running after him to try to calm hiim down. He then runs back because the guy ran out. So us 4 guys decided we didnt want something bad to happen that night and we ran all around the building looking for him. Im the first to spot him. I see a girl with him and theyre yelling at each other.

Then he starts walking towards the wall. Our dorm is actually and old skyscraper that was converted and has a shopping mall on the first few floors so the smoking floor is actually 5 floors up. The wall he was running too had a really really tall fence that extends up around the ledge for safety. So im there saying "Oh *****" and im praying he doesnt wanna jump. I start to follow him slowly, he then starts walking faster and i break out into a full on sprint. He jumps on the ledge from the side and i grab him by the shirt. His shirt tears right off of him. By this time he was on the OTHER side of the safety fence on about 3 inches of ledge ready to jump. By that time my friend had gotten there and was trying to reach through the fence to grab him by the ankles but he couldnt get through. During this time i jumped up on the ledge with him and carefully made my way to him. he was screaming " IS THIS WHAT YOU WANTED YOU B!TCH!!?!" back at the girl. So anyways i bear hug him and i push against the fence all the while trying not to fall off this small as heck ledge and i scream at him " DUDE IF YOU JUMP OFF THE LEDGE IM GOING TO JUMP WITH YOU, YOU DONT WANT ME TO DIE RIGHT?" By this time the security guards were out and my friends were there and we were able to calm him down and bring him back around the fence and off the ledge. Whether he really was going to jump, ididnt know. But he was stuimbling around enough for him to have easily slip off.

This all happened 2 hours ago and i just found out that he was drunk and on cocaine. His girlfriend was on the same and she had broken up with him or something of that nature.

Some crazy happenings around austin i tellya what!

Anyways to keep this firearms related, these friends and i and some other people that had saw the commotion were smoking. We talking about the event, the suicide and eventually firearms. Turns out one of the guys was looking to buy something because he was moving into a shady part of town next semester. After all that i ended up selling him one of my pocket pistols just now.

So the question is "Where do you find people to sell to on a face to face basis?"

Generally, you dont sell on a face-to-face basis to potential suicide attemptors. :neener:

Just kidding, of course. Im glad you were able to help... who knows what would have happened if you hadnt been there!

The only part I found a little strange is in the beginning where you mentioned he came out crying and you reached for your knife. Did you just leave out something that made you believe there might be a threat or did you think that a knife was needed to deal with a depressed, crying man? ;)

It's good that you helped him, hopefully he will get some help, and decide to live life. If you want to go above and beyond, you and your friends might want to befriend him, this really helps people who are depressed, suicidal, and feel all alone. Often that's all it is, losing a gf, or just feeling like nobody understands you, will drive an otherwise normal person to end their life. Good job!

So you were willing to die trying to save this guy? I've got to tell you bro, you're more of a humanitarian than me. No way in the world would you get me out on a ledge x number of stories up in the air, wrestling with some jacked up coke head who wanted to take the plunge.

It's good to be alert and ready around anyone who seems emotionally unstable or extremely upset.
Good job in saving the guy, boredelmo!

This sounds nutz, but I don't lend or sell firearms to anyone. Well, maybe my dad, but that is a different story.

The last peice of a Jedi's training was the construction of a light saber... When the made it, they were Jedi. Buying guns is a lot like that. You are ready to own one when you go out an buy it yourself. Obviously this is a first gun thing... But you get the picture.

Not saying that everyone that buys a gun is ready for it, but there is way to much BS to have to deal with if they buy one from you and go shoot up the neighborhood...

BTW, good work, I guess. I am wondering if you should have just let the idiot jump, but then some DA like McCoy in law and order would prosecute you for negligent homicide or something... Screwy world.

Um...I'm glad you were there to help, but this is not firearms related, you know. Mods coming in 5...4...3...2........
