OK so yesterday I was haveing a bad day, and decided I was going to head to the range for some stress releif . On the way there I stop by my friends house . He and I had talked at length over the last year or so of getting him out shooting , and we even made plans quite a few times that he always backed out of . One of the last times I had talked to him about it he flat out said ."I don't like guns . I am afraid of them ."I had made a mental note to try and fix that later .
Well yesterday became that day . I pulled up and he was getting ready to BBQ some Salmon and I asked him if it could wait an hour or so . He said it could and wanted to know why . I told him to just get in the car . As we where driveing to th range he asked me again what was up if something was wrong and I needed to talk or something . I told him everything was ok , and the time had come for him decide for himself if guns are bad or good .
We rolled up the range and got stuff unpacked . Thankfully no one was there and it was just us two . I than went over the four rules with him , and I took out my Ar and showed him every controll on it what it did and why. I than showed him the ammo , and how it was loaded into the mags . He was still nervous and wanted to smoke a cigerett so I sat him down at the bench next to me with a couple of boxes of ammo and an empty mag for him to load . I made sure he had his plugs in and told him I was going to sight in real quick while he loaded a mag .
I squeezed off one shot and he jumped up off the bench and threw the mag in the air and just kind of blinked at me . I put the rifle on safe set it down and asked if he was ok . He said he was fine and apologised saying the sound scared him and he thought he had set off a round while loading the mag . We talked for a mineut or so about it and then once I was sure he was OK I fired two more shots and he didn't jump anymore .
After I set the rifle back down on safe while empty I taold him to come over , and I went over everything with him again . He said he didn't want to shoot because he is left handed .I told him if he doesn't want to shoot today he doesn't have to . I also told him he could shoot left handed or if he wanted seeing as it was his first time he could learn how to shoot right handed right off the bat . He said ok and walked up to the bench . I loaded one round in the mag ,and handed it to him .
He squeezed off his first shot and then he started to shake a bit and put the rifle back on safe and set it down . I asked if he wanted to stop and he said "No.I'm cool , just a bit nervouse. "I knew I had him right there . I loaded 2 rounds in the mag and let him go again. He was starting to get into it now . After that I put three in and let him go again . He was starting to hit what he was aiming at .I then gave him a fresh mag and stood by to make sure everything was ok , and he shot off a couple more mags .
After we where don we packed up and I took him home . I told him "I hope you are not mad for me takeing you out to shoot . " He said "No man that's cool . "Do you think we can go again on Sunday ? I can buy some ammo tommorow when I get off work."
Woot.!
