Took my 7yr old (AKA brass Monkey) to the range yesterday and discovered that he is right handed with a dominate left eye. Started training him to shoot left handed. He did fairly well, shooting a AR-15 w/22 conversion unit. Biggest problem is that the closes range on the rifle side is 50yds. Would like to have a 25yd set up for beggining shooters. A lot easier to teach.
The Question is, should I continue to train him left handed?
There was an older gentelman with his grandson at the bench next to us. When I brought out the M1 Garand his eyes locked on it. I asked him if he knew the rifle and he told me that he had lived with on for 2 years in Korea, but had not seen one since. Handed him a clip of handloads and the rifle and watched him go back to basic. He explaned the rifle to his grandson and then loaded and fired it. He thanked me and I told him about the CMP. He said that he would get at least one M1 for each of his 3 grandsons!
