I see this word misspelled more than any word I think I’ve ever seen in my life and wonder why? Creedmore is the most common way I see it misspelled but there are other ways I see it misspelled.

Lose spelled loose is up there too.

Eh...I had a fella expound on the problems with the six-five “Creekmore“ for fifteen minutes last week. Asked him what he preferred as an alternative and he told me the 308 has better “knockdown power and shoots flatter if you shoot 110 grain V-Maxes in it.” I just shook my head and walked off. I’m sure he’s still preaching that sermon somewhere.

The cartridges are named in honor the Creedmoor shooting Club in NY.

I THINK is supposed to be pronounced Creed "mour", as in "I'm going to moor my boat here. I believe it is derived from a Scottish word which also means a low lying swampy area of land. The Creedmoor shooting club was purchased from a farmer in 1872 named Creed. His land was known as Creeds Moor due to the terrain. They named the gun club Creedmoor. It was at one time the most famous long range shooting range in the USA. They were shooting 1000 yard matches there in the 1870's

But just like the word Sako, it is mispronounced more often than not in this country. Which leads to it being mis spelled.

Mr. jmr40 provides a good account of the Creed farm in New York, which became the NRA's shooting range, in which famous long range international shooting matches were held in the late 1800's. As the surrounding area continued to develop it was necessary to close the range and NY took position. On which a hospital was built known as Creedmoor Psychiatric Clinic. which somehow seems appropriate, considering the current insanity regarding anything bearing the Creedmoor name.
