I purchased the above knife from a knife dealer in Newburgh NY for $30. He showed me the knife in a catalog where another dealer was asking $75. I really know very little about knives, but I've wanted one for a long time and it seemed to be a very good deal and I trusted him, so I went for it. It opens very easily and quickly with one hand, but I notice that it won't open completely (it takes a second effort) about 1-2 % of the times I try. Do you think it is just me (because I'm a novice), or is it something with the knife that keeps it from opening first try every single time? Other then that one question, I am very pleased with the knife.

haven't noticed that problem with mine. May not be putting enough force into your opening. kinda like limp-wristing a pistol. Like I said, haven't really noticed the problem with mine and it went with me for a year long tour in Iraq and has been carried a great deal since then.

Welcome to THR, WhiteMarshJohnny!

Can you describe in more detail what's happening (or not happening, that is)? Is it not opening or is it not locking open?

There are two ways to open this (and most other CRKT) knife with one hand.
With the thumb on the thumb stud.
With the forefinger on the flipper.
The latter is preferable, especially if combined with a flick of the wrist. That method gives me a 100% reliable instant open with my CRKT M21. It's as fast as any assisted open knife.

If you're ever wanting another CRKT check out this site as the prices are particularly good.

Response to real name

MY RESPONSE TO REAL NAME: I use the 2nd method you mentioned - index finger on the flipper with a flick of the wrist. Like I said - I've had a lot of time to play around with it - 1, maybe 2 times out of 100 the blade comes out part of the way and I have to give it another flick, or push the thumb stud to open it the rest of the way. I guess it's not that bad - it works 99% of the time.

Thanks for the link Smokey Mountain.

I just bought one yesterday for $25. It is a great knife. If I were you, I'd CLP the joint and play with it a few hundred more times. If it's THAT bad, which you say it isn't, then I'd adjust the tension with a TORX wrench.

Hope this helps,

The first thing I would look for is pocket lint/detritus in the lock. Give it a good cleaning and a squirt of CLP, then wipe it down.
