Just picked myself up a CRKT M16-14M knife the thing is pretty sweet, if i do say so, but when I was out today and I need to use it at the range some guy was lectureing me about how the knife was illegal since it has the carson flipper on it. And also it was illegal since the blade was too long. supposedly the law is that the knife can't be over 2 1/2 inches long and it can't have an assisted opening device, so i humored him and just let what he was saying go in one ear and out the other. but what I have found is that in MASS here the only things that are illegal are switch/butterfly, and assisted opening knives and I haven't found anything that set a blade length. But enough about that, What are your guys impressions with CRKT this is the second one of mine and I love'em so has anyone here had any problems with them.

I've got a CRKT A.B.C. that I like to use for barbecuing, camping and boating. It is the only CRKT knife that I own though, I'm partial to carrying my Mini-Grip most of the time.

I've owned, and had good experience with, several CRKT's in the past. I'll often recommend the brand to a non-knify friend to give them the experience of owning a better-than-disposable piece. Made a few converts this way.

My only CRKT knife is a Ringed Razel. I like it but I'm still trying to get used to the extra edge and not get cut.

Knife laws vary widely by location and jurisdiction, Steve. Be sure to check the law in your area with a reputable source so you know you actually know what you know.

CRKT knives represent some good values. Their steel usually keeps them from being top flight products, IMO, but sometimes you don't need or want a top flight knife. I know the M16 is a pretty popular choice as a patrol knife, when officers know they might need to use a knife for rough work in a pinch and wouldn't want to risk it. The knife I carry on duty (a Benchmade Griptillian) is chosen over my regular carry knife (a Spyderco Stretch) for just such reasons. Several guys I know carry the M16 in that role.

I've had a CRKT bear claw since high school, and it's still on me daily.

I bought a bear claw (orange handled, serated version) a little while back and ive been wearing it arround my neck every day. Hardly know its there and its very usefull for every day tasks.

Im happy with CRKT

I bought the serrated, blunt-tipped version of the bearclaw for recreational tree-climbing, as a rescue knife that could easily cut 1/2" arborists' rope, but minimized the risk of accidently piercing the person being rescued. I eventually had a point ground onto it.

I like it.

The Carson flipper has never, to my knowledge, been singled out as an automatic knife.

There is a move afloat to list all assisted-openers under the switchblade provisions, but it's not, at this point, going to be retroactive. Then again, the Carson Flipper types aren't considered assisted-opening knives.

Knives are generally limited by blade length, as well, not overall length.

Georgia law states that carrying a knife for offensive, or defensive, use is prohibited. There are no blade lengths, or opening styles, mentioned.

The flipper has no spring action, so it's not "assisted" by legal terms.

The action uses potential energy from the ball detent on the liner to hold the blade closed until there is enough force generated by your finger to open the blade at once. Like popping the clutch in a car.

Good knife. I had a cheap aus-4 m-16 tanto that I liked, then hated. I bought an m21 though, aluminum handles, spear point, and aus-8. And that knife was miles ahead of the other. Stayed as my always sharp backup knife in a cargo pocket, until I got a multi tool I actually liked.

I've had several CRKT knives, all in the M16 series. They're a good quality knife at a low-enough price point that you don't feel too bad when you lose/abuse one.

Currently have two that are EDC, a 3" spear point and a 3-7/8" tanto point. They just work well, but don't break the bank.

I have about 10 of them in my gettong larger collection of knives, which is now about 100. I love them for the price. Suggest them to those who either don't want to spend over 100 on a knife, or can't spend that much but NEED a quality carry piece. Shoot, I carry one most days whilst off work. Or something a lot more high end but the CRKT has always been great dna I have never had one problem with them....none at all. Have had the first one I bought for about 10 years now.

I have a CRKT that I really love, this little "bird and trout" sort of neck knife thing. Nothing special, just a little Taiwanese-made drop-point design, but it is super handy to carry in my bird vest or my fishing vest (as seasons dictate).

A bunch of people seem to like the M-16 series. I own one, and I dislike it strongly. I am willing to assume that either A: I got a lemon or B: I am too stupid to work the flipper, but the end result is that I have a knife that I am just not particularly fond of. Like I say, there are plenty of people that like them, so that is just my opinion of my knife, not my overall view.

They have some cool designs: I like the Minimalist to the extent that I just ordered one despite my overall non-interest in neck knives, I like that they make a less expensive version of the Sting, and I really like the Razel line.

They also make some stuff that I personally think is just dumb: Two prime examples are the snap-lock and the hole-in-one.

But enough about that, What are your guys impressions with CRKT this is the second one of mine and I love'em so has anyone here had any problems with them

I've had several knives by CRKT and, with one exception, all have been excellent, trouble free, hard working tools. The one with which I had a problem was courteously and promptly replaced by their Customer Service department. Good company great product!

i have a crkt m16 z i think with the 3 1/4 inch tanto blade ive had it for about a year and abuse the crap out of it everyday at work outside in mud cutting pipe all the time cutting roots it gets filthy and all i do is throw it at the bottom of the shower at the end of the day and it has no rust or anything yet. its a damn good knife for the 30 bucks i paied for it i have tried to get the lock to fold on me many times and cant stabbing it into trees ect.

Makes an old man feel good, reading the comments on this thread...:)

Thanks.

Kit

BTW, if any of you ever have an issue with a CRKT knife, please PM or email me. Won't promise anything, but their Customer Service is outstanding.

"Kit" Carson?

Heck, I had no idea you were a member here!

CRKT makes good knives, at the time I only have one a Lake Design Laredo, which is "autographed" by Lake himself, he lives near Eugene, OR and the local knife store had some he had signed with an electric engraver. It's a nice knife, it's my Sunday go to meeting knife. I know they are made in China, but its a very nicely made knife with quality materials and good inspection. CRKT makes good products, I don't feel like I am giving anything up quality wise when I am carrying my Laredo folder. I plan on adding some more CRKT products in the future.

The bad thing is I am a Gun Nut and a Knife Knut, gets expensive... have to be creative when handling them so that my wife doesn't catch on that I added a knife to my collection.

+1 on the CRKT M16 series being nice folders. My only complaint with them is that I've managed to lose three of them over the past six years or so . . . admittedly that's an operator head space and timing issue, not the knives, though .

I'm a big fan of CRKT products....my EDC knife is a Crawford-Kaspar folder w/ the LAWKS safety...only bad thing about it is that CRKT doesn't still have it in catalog  ....but the ones they do have are great choices....planning to get a Razel and a Zilla-Tool Jr. in the near future....I highly recommend the brand... :D
