A local shop (J&G) has a bunch of these for $199. They're being sold without grips (?), but they'll provide cracked grips for an extra $20. Looks like a cross between a Beretta 92 and a P-38, sort of. Anybody have one? At that price, I'm tempted, even if I'd have to come up with grips for it somehow.

For $199, it's worth a shot. ;)
Get the grips, at least you'd be able to tape it up like a real ghetto gun and shoot it.

.....or use it instead of a hammer. If you need 9x19 pistol I would buy the Shield and use the mail in coupon.

They're pretty junky guns for the most part. Just Google them.

You could get a Taurus Millennium G2 PT111 for less money and it would have a lifetime warranty...
Dang... I did a search here first and didn't find anything. I guess I've lost my touch with search terms.

After looking around at what little info is out there, I think I'm better off with just getting more reloading components or maybe a new set of jewelled tweezers. I surely don't need another pistol for anything, but my eyes light up when I see a price like that-- which is why I have a bunch of not-terribly-useful items in 9mmMak. :D

It is an interesting looking beast. Is the magazine double column? I'd buy one for the coffee table. Makes an interesting conversation piece.

Unless it's to be used for modern art...that's ugly. I looked - J&Gs is selling them for $150, but gunsmith specials, which means broken worn and missing parts more than just the grips.

I was looking at this listing, which is a functioning item though without grips. I see that as of this morning, even the cracked grips are no longer available on the page, so I'm going to pass it by. As much as I enjoy a challenge, fabricating grips isn't something I want to try.

I dunno about ugly-- I think it's kind of cute in a primitive way. I also like the looks of a Nagant revolver, so I'm clearly a tasteless person anyway.

I wouldn't say tasteless; more like you've got a soft spot for the ugly ducklings of the gun world.

Is S&W still offering that rebate? That might satisfy the urge to get a great deal. I haven't heard anything bad about that MV9, but I haven't been looking.

Nothing wrong with giving the underappreciated a home.

True enough; that's another way to look at it. Come to think of it we always got all of our lovable mutts from the animal shelter too!

I think so. If you go to Gunboard Forums there should be Brownells pop-up add for S&W Shield $239.99 after mail in rebate. It was there few days ago.

if you're into collecting go for it, if is for protection, there a better guns up there now, about the same prices too, S&W Shields come to mind.

I think I read that they take the XD mags, since they came from the same manufacturer. These came before the HS2000, which we all know as the Springfield XD.

They were rush Yugo Civil War manufacture I understand.

Hmm, for under $200, it has me kind of interested. I own a CZ 99; although that actually was imported from Israel, it would be the correct "opposing" gun from that conflict.

I'm not attacking this post, because you make a valid point; however, it seems that people get real pushy with this concept in a lot of threads.

I own a lot of pistols, all function. Most weren't purchased with the sole purpose of personal protection in mind, they were bought because they were interesting examples and designs. I haven't needed a gun in a long time, but I still like to look around at things. While this might not be the latest fad in carry, it's more interesting historically than just another random polymer compact. Pretty soon, the only surplus (if we even get to get any) will be generic polymer guns, made by one of 3 or 4 companies at the most, and you will need to trust a letter to determine which country it was issued to.

Also, points to the OP for not posting one of those fisheye pics that makes the barrel look like it's drooping!

If you're looking for a fun milsurp, don't pass up the Bulgarian Makarov that are on the market now. Plus they run great and make solid defenders.
