This weekend while shopping at Wally World I spied a Crossman Walther PPK/S CO2 BB Pistol. My wife and I purchased it, $62, becuase her primary carry is a Walther PPK/S in .32 ACP. Now we realize an airgun is no substitue for real live fire, but .32 ACP is an expensive monkey.

Overall Appearance - It is made of actual steel with a decent dark baked on finish. It also has simulated blowback and slide lock after the last shot. Size wise it is a spitting image. All dimensions are correct. The only point that deviates from this is the grip frame. The grip frame is about 1/2" longer than a standard PPK/S and encompasses what on a standard model would be the finger grip extension of the mag.

Magazine Capacity - 15 BBs, with the option of buying additional mags from Crossman (price unlisted)

CO2 Durability - We are averaging approx 100 shots per 12oz cartridge with velocity seriously degrading after about 85 shots.

Sights - Standard front post with square notch rear, non-adjustable. Black on black was hard to pick up so we used nail polish to make orange front and green rear. Much better now.

Controls - Leave something to be desired. Mag release is good as it is in the standard location. However, the safety is located on the right side behing the trigger area and is comprised of plastic. Honestly it feels a bit hinky. There is a fixed molded steel safety lever where you would find it on a live model.

Function - Funtion is flawless. The slide recoils with each shot providing some realism, and it locks back after the last shot. It requires the mag to be pulled to drop the slide then. Unfortunately, the hammer remains in the cocked position regardless of what mode it is in. There may be a way to let it down, but we haven't found it yet.

Dimensions - It is spot on as I've said previously. It fits all holsters perfectly, even the ones I've made for her live model that are boned extremely tight. The weight is about right, perhaps an ounce or two lighter than a real PPK/S. When reholstering you have to hold a thumb on the back of the slide because the spring tension isn't enough to over come even a little slide resistance.

Shooting - You can rip off the rounds with this thing. Crossman claims 295fps. I found I must use a six o'clock hold (dot the i) to get cosistant hits. If I must I'll file the front a bit to get shooting like her real gun. We live in town so practice in the backyard is quiet and not a bother to the neighbors. I made one squirrel in my bird feeder dance when I caught him in the ass with a BB at 25 yds (had to hold 1' high).

Overall, this is a great purchase for us. She can practice without the gear up neccessary for a range trip and it provides some realism and fun. I get to have a fun toy and torment small furry creatures.

Ask away with any questions you may have or suggestions of things to include.

The amazing thing is, even with all the moving parts, these little guns are virtually trouble free.

Over the last several years, I have sold 82 of them, and the only one that was reported to me to have problems, was one I didn't sell to the customer, but was a demonstrator from a "brick & mortar" store. He liked it so much though, he bought a new one from me.

And, no - they do not shoot pellets.

My only problem is loading the magazine with my big fat fingers. My BBs are in the milk carton type containers, so I pinch out a few, load half, drop half on the floor, dog tries to eat them, I retrieve, repeat.
Not real accurate, but fun and therapeutic in the back yard. I am 007, licensed to kill Diet Coke cans.
I guess there is one other problem. Now I want a real PPK/S. The Makarov just isn't one, no matter what I try to tell myself.

Walther Redstorm

Completely different mechanism on mine; it's a DAO revolver inside.

Would be really accurate, but the trigger's simply an atrocity. It is quite accurate, in small doses, then the trigger finger starts hurting (flashing on the inside of the guard, plus muscle fatigue).

I keep wishing I got the PPK. Much cheaper, and cooler to boot.

OTOH, this looks like something from the Diamond Age, which earns it a few points.

I should have picked one of these up when I had the chance last summer. It would have been perfect for plinking in the basement.

Practicing in the basement is what I do, my target is a square cardboard box 14 x14 filled with old towel inside. The bulls eye is a 5 " shoot & see black that overlines with bright green when you get a hit.

The range to the end of the basement is 25 feet and I do night shooting with the aid of a flashlight trying different positions (Harries, Chapman, Rogers_Surefire etc.)

I use several tacticals flashlights and also my 951 lumens MAG 951.

This pistol is a lot of fun, it was my birthday present to my son when he was 14, but guess who use it the most. :D

Pork Fat -

The secret to loading any BB gun is to use a magnet. Dump a few in a pile and pick them up on the magnet. Much easier to grasp and a fingernail flick will put it in the mag. I haven't messed with BBs in probably 12 years and I can say it seems to be trickier to pick them up now than it used to be. Proof that BB guns are for kids (lol) you need tiny fingers to pick them up.

I have an old Daisey Beretta clone - it shoots pellet and is a CO2 gun. Bought it around 1989 probably. Haven't shot it since 1992 probably. Don't know if it still works. Just haven't felt like spending money on it to find out. No parts moved but the hammer, though.

The Walther P99 clone looks kewl, but it costs over $100.

Oh, lordy.

I've had three of these over the years. Two nickel and one in black. One of the nickel ones mutated into this. Note that said link is not for the faint of heart.

Anyway, my experience with them has been quite positive. Discounting the CO2 mechanism and the magazine, there are only about five moving parts in the gun - The slide, trigger, sear, hammer, and firing pin. It's a very simple design, moreso than blowback airsoft pistols and such.

I've found that the PPK is a blast to shoot, especially with the true single action, semi-auto mechanism. Most BB guns tout being "semiautomatic!" but are really just dressed up DAO revolver style designs with horrible trigger pulls.

Unfortunately, the PPK has a short little nonrifled barrel and doesn't manage much accuracy or velocity. Mine pulls 300 FPS on a warm day, which is enough to irritate most critters but not enough to go huntin' for any of them, and mine can best manage to hit paper plate sized targets at about fifteen yards, which isn't stellar. Using good BB's will go a long way towards closing up those groups - The Crosman Copperheads that come with the gun are horrible, and most of them have visible cavities on one side of them, making them curve like whiffle balls. I use Daisy MaxSpeed BB's in mine and the accuracy has improved considerably. Using lead BB's like the Gamo perfect rounds increases accuracy but degrades range and velocity, as the lead BB's are considerably heavier than the steel ones.

Anyway!

I'd still highly recommend one of these as a plinking around "fun gun," but with a caveat: Umarex (the company who really makes these things, Crosman just sells them in the 'States) not long ago came out with a blowback P99 Compact, creatively called the CP99 compact (not to be confused with the CP99 and CP99 Sport, which are dressed up DAO's) which is another CO2 blowback BB pistol of similar design, but with a longer barrel resulting in much improved velocity and accuracy! Also, the CP99 Compact has a working decocker and the safety is slightly less silly.

I have one of those, too, and I like it a lot. Magazines are still hard to find for it, though.

The secret to loading the magazines is to get one of those Crosman baby feeding dropper shaped speed loaders at your local Wally World, dump all the lousy Copperhead BB's out of it, and refill it with decent ammo. You squeeze the tip of it and it opens up a little, pouring a nice, neat, single file line of BB's that's easily controlled. You can hold the follower down on the magazine with one hand (The CP99 follower locks, but the PPK's doesn't) and pour 'em right in. You can suck unused extra BB's back into the loader by pointing it at the sky and giving it a pinch, which is handy and keeps 'em off of your basement floor.

Full auto PPK ... what a blast ! useless but a Blast

Hi there , I was just browsing thru youtube when I came across your movie. on the full auto PPK. I own six Umarex pistols , including the PPK and planning on the Desert Eagle too.

Anyways, I decided to try out your mod ( which I now affectionately call the 'Die Lemon Mod' .. he he . I can tell you its a blast, never had this much fun since I owned the umarex pistols.

Howev er I wanted to ask you , why you filed down the trigger bar. The O-Ring mod behind the firing pin head is enough to do the trick. Fortunately you don't need to defile the original mechanism.

that part you filed is only there so that when the slide is in full rear position , the trigger bar is pushed down ( like when the safety is on ) and the trigger is not activated , so that yuou dont release the trigger accidentally when in the slide is in this position.

Anyway . Thanks for the 'Die Lemon Mod' . Its was a real brainwave.

MALTA .

P.S. if anyone of you don't know where this is . its a small island of around 400,000 people , 60 miles south of sicily in the mediterranean. Bye Bye

i used to have

A 92FS clone that was a single shot, tip-up barrel pellet gun that was insanely accurate. I wonder if you can still get them?

It sounds like you want a Baikal Mp654K. They are excellent air pistols, based on the doublstack Makarov frame. All ordnance steel, rifled barrels, DA with Decocker (all real Makarov insides). If the Walther is good, the Makarov is Supreme! Excellent accuracy to. Also, the Baikal is designed such that CO2 cartrige is housed in the magazine, allowing it to be removed, rendering the weapon safe, and used again for later shooting sessions. The problem is they haven't been imported in a number of years (thank you BATFE) and comand a bit of a premium. Worth every penny IMHO!
It is made of actual steel
Unless something changed, their Zinc. Made in Japan, BTW.

i've prevously owned two of theres. the only thing i don't like is the plastic screw design on the bottom, they could've made it metal or stronger because i've have one stripped. also some of the clips comes crappy and with a full 15 round will seem like the clip is going to split in half. it is fun to shoot though.

Oh man, you're gonna get me to buy the PPK/S I've been looking at
a couple of times. It's been on a nearby dealer's shelf display for a while
but he hasn't jacked the price up and now you tell me I can get a practice
Crossman for the secluded yard shots

It's all Sean COnnery's fault in Dr. No in the opening scene in the WHite dinner jacket and then he slips away from the dinner and pulls the Walther

argh... this would be a great combo to pass along to my first granddaughter <grin> well my daughter balked at getting my Granddaughter a lifetime NRA membershiip so I started a college fund
instead....

hmmmm

This little guy was my first "gun" and is a real blast to play with. I constructed a backstop and can shoot in my basement with no problems, and it works well enough that it's a fairly decent substitute for when you can't shoot for real.

Ppk/s

My PPK/S has been great with one problem: the slide is sticking on the blowback. Started to be easy to push back by hand, now can be very hard to push. Cleaned and oiled but did not help. Any advise? Thanks

PPK/S BB Gun

I did the ppk/s full auto mod but the slide does not return all the way to bring the hammer back down so i have to keep pulling the hammer dont after each shot.. what do i do plz help
thx

I have a nickeled brass japanese ppk/s in 7mm finned pellets (it's pre-airsoft. dunno why it has .22s next to it in the pictures; I guess I was trying to be funny)
ppks1-1.jpg

Also blowback, but it runs off of PC duster gas, I turned and fitted a barrel extension so it'll shoot these little pellets like 30 yards with pretty good accuracy; albeit not a lot of power

PPk parts

Hi,
any one need a part for their PPk? I have almost a complete ppk for parts. The valve body holds co2 and seals are good. No clip. I can send pics.
I take paypal
Let me know what you need

clarify

hi there, anyone could shed light to me? i was looking for an option and was planning to buy a walther ppk bb gun, i am confused of some selling with somthing rounded on the butt, and some dont have. is co2 type and gas type the same? :)

I have seen these at the WALLLLLmart, thought about getting one more than a few times. Maybe I will pick one up for shooting some cans in the back yard at my buddies house next time he has a bbq. he lives in city limits, so it might be a fun little toy to mess around with and pass the time.
