COLT CSR-1516 5.56 16" MID WT BBL FREE FLOAT 1-30 firearm

Manufacturer: COLT
Model: CSR-1516
Caliber: 223
Capacity: 30
Barrel Length: 16"
Finish: BLACK
SKU: COLCSR1516
UPC: 857733003392

I saw this up for sale at CDNN for under $700. PLUS- you get a case, 4- 30 round magazines and a Carhart COLT embroidered jacket. Seems like one of those deals that are too good to be true. What am I missing? Is this AR version particularly poor or is it missing things that bring the price down? Anyone have experience with this rifle?

First thing is to realize that Colt Competition rifles are not the same as Colts normal lineup of AR's (6920, 6940, etc.). They are built by a company called Bold Ideas in Texas, and use the Colt name under license. They aren't built to mil-specs like normal Colts and I don't believe they use any actual Colt parts.

This model looks suspiciously like the LE6900 that Colt released last year and which has also seemed to have vanished from their lineup. Not surprising, as Colt didn't build the LE6900 in the first place and many people were upset that Colt was releasing a "cheapened" gun alongside their normal lineup of mil-spec guns. Pushing the model off to the Colt Competition lineup just plain makes sense.

While not Colt built, the CSR's are nice rifles that get good reviews on accuracy and reliability. The one I've held was well built without any glaring build flaws. (Castle nut and gas key staked correctly, everything lined up.)

For $700, if you are in the market for an AR, that's a pretty good deal.
