Colt vs Colt

The CSR-1516 isn't made by Colt.

Not sure about that exact model, but I have heard some not so great things about some of the other Colt branded AR-15s which were not made by Colt

Skip both and get a 6720. Unless you plan on doing 100rd mag dumps, it loses nothing to the 6920, except weight. And no, the CSR isnt built by Colt, it just has a Colt rollmark.

The 6920 is a real Colt AR-15 and will hold its price (or increase) over the years.

The other "Colt" should be compared to $700 ARs. Probably not a bad rifle but see if its features are worth the extra hundred to you. Myself, I wouldn't be interested but again it's probably an ok AR.

the Gun Blast review made it sound like it was assembled by "Bold Ideas" w/ Colt parts like a factory authorized custom shop.

The Model 1516 is made for Colt under license by Bold Ideas Texas in Breckenridge, TX. They make a number of different models of competition rifles. The guns generally get good reviews for quality and accuracy. My understanding is that Colt has contracted with this company to make Colt competition rifles which Colt does not want to manufacture in-house.

Here's a link to the Colt / Bold Ideas Texas website.

This is nothing new for Colt. For years they imported Sauer bolt action rifles that were made for Colt, and now Colt bolt action rifles are made for them by Cooper Firearms of Montana.

It's not like Colt employees have special secret talents and powers unknown to other gun manufacturers.

How many times have you read "I can make an AR better than any I can buy" on Internet gun forums?

AR's are either easy to make to high quality standards or they're not - you can't have it both ways where you claim you can make one at home better than Colt, but a contract manufacturer for Colt can't do the same thing.

Imo the le6920s are a good deal at the current prices. One could have argued at the higher prices there were better or equal options for a lot less. Harder to do that now. I prefer a 6920. Too each their own though.

Except that the parts used have more to do with it than who assembles it.

I second what Jackal said. If you just want to plink a lighter rifle will be nice. For home defense a lighter rifle is better. And for hunting, a lighter rifle is better for long hikes. While you can't go wrong with the 6920, the 6720 is better for yours (and most others') needs.
