I am interested in this too. I have built my lower and am () this close to pulling the trigger on that aplha series upper. Anyone have one?

Hard answer that one. The Colt model you listed and the upper and lower combination you linked are two different configurations.

The best choice would depend on which configuration you want (assuming AIM is reputable - I never heard of them). Edit: I went back and see it is actually a DD upper, with which I have no experience. But they seem to have a good following from what I read.

Normally I would say get the Colt, but personally I don't care for the 6920 configuration... due to the short sight radius / short handguard carbine gas system, cut in barrel, GI buttstock, and GI trigger.

However if these are features you like, hard to go wrong with it.

Speaking purely from a resale value standpoint, the Colt. Disregarding that, I'm kinda in the same frame of mind as Rod the Welder. I've used a few DD uppers and they are first class... and although I've never used one, there are lots of folks who think highly of Spike's products... so for a shooter, the combo.

i would go with the colt but thats just more of a personal coice. either way that lower is priced on the high side

As stated, go Colt if you consider resale. I personally don't care for the Colt. So, I'd go with the FrankenAR. However, I'd not pick that Spike's lower. As stated, It's a little on the high side. Second, the website says 8 to 12 months wait. Forget that!
AIM is very reputable. Order with confidence. That upper's specs is excellent.

I recently pulled trigger on a Colt LE6920MP, but I get the LE discount. Sold off most of my build kit except for the JP LPK and FCG. Eventually it'll go into the Colt.

Check out the SIGs on Gunbroker: 556 and the M400 are incredible rifles for the pricing, and coming with "free" kit from certain vendors: range bags, lasers, extra mags, shipped free with no CC fees, etc.. Incredible values out there right now.

PM me for details of vendors if interested.

So if you think the Spikes lower is on the high side ? How much do you think the price should be ? Or would it be wise to just buy the parts and put them together by your self (maybe save some but not much )? I dont have an AR yet so i m asking .
Or whats a nice complete lower like RRA ?

As to the Colt 6920, I think i ll stay away bec i dont like the m4 type barrel with cuts on the far end and its not midlength gas system.

If you were considering the 6920, that leads me to believe you're looking for a "serious bidness" carbine. That upper from AIM surplus ain't no DD upper. It uses a DD barrel, but it is an AIM build using an unknown, mystery bolt carrier group. The specs look good, but whose BCG is it? I've had great performance out of my Spikes lower, but the Punisher stuff is kinda lame to me.

As for Midlength vs. carbine gas, I don't notice much of any difference in recoil impulse or "smoothness" while shooting, and any theoretical extended life of the bolt remains unproved. My only ARs right now are middies, but that is because they are set up the way I want them, not because they have midlength gas systems.

Of course, your mileage may vary, but if I were wanting a carbine to stake my life on I would either get the 6920, or instead consider a complete upper from BCM or Daniel Defense, both of which are likely to offer something that suits you needs & wants.
