This has been a good year for firearms owners across most of the country. Its reasonable to say that its time for us to take the offensive. I wanted to know ideas as to how we can effectively repeal some of the draconian legislation.

Much of CT gun restrictions come from 1994 legislation when the whole country was buying into the Brady bunche's nonsense. At the very least we need to strengthen our HD laws into a more castle doctrine set up. Some emergancy powers legislation that would prevent a Katrina scenario would also be helpful. We also need to remove arbitrary restrictions against things such as retractable stocks on rifled firearms.

On the hunting side we need longer white tail deer seasons to deal with the masses of overpopulated white tail. Lime disease in CT is at absurd levels especailly compared to other parts of the country.

So what plans of action does anyone have to carry out these goals? Does anyone think its a bad idea? Are there any specific bans you want to see repealed?

DEP is addressing some of these concerns. I have a friend that is a member of a panel that talks to hunters and relays info to the DEP. They are pushing hard for sunday hunting. as of now, it appears that sunday hunting will be only in zones 11 and 12 (shoreline for the most part) archery only. that is if it even passes at all :(

and yeah, it's rediculous that the 1994 awb still applies to us. colt has factories here and we can't even buy colt ar's seems pretty rediculous

Well the shoreline areas are where we need it most. Most likely since homes and habbitats are the same place in CT bow hunting is all we will get but none the less hunting is hunting. We could really use hunting on sundays though; is there any way ordinary citizens can help push it along?

BTW I am pretty sure colt moved to one of the southern states. Their old factory in New Haven is now an apartment complex of some sort. No doubt used by all sorts of felons...

colt still makes guns in west hartford, i have a friend that works there. but yeah, i think they did move some of their work down south.

not really sure if there is anything we can do to push along sunday hunting. the dep is reluctant because every time they change laws in favor of sportsman, they get all kinds of wackos protesting, calling, emailing, etc. For example, controlled hunts on bluff point. the deer are way over population, but everytime they issue tags, people picket, protest, and make life miserable for hunters and the DEP

Yeah instead they waste tons of money hiring people to clear that area out...Honestly though who cares about a few wackos they are simply village idiots. Any ideas about the AWB still applying to us? I think with some grassroots effort we might be able to set things in motion.

I think our state is heading more towards a pro-sportsmans stance. Ever go to the Cabelas they built near where Uconn has its games? Its always booming and full of people.

I am all for it.

First, we have to liberate the liberal held areas on the coasts.

We should team up the California network with my New York City network and work together to bring the 2nd Amendment back to town from exile.

I am starting something here called "Bill Of Rights Press", I am going to team up with my fellow NRA reps in Long Island and Brooklyn and start cranking out articles. If we can't find any media carriers to publish our stuff, fine, I'll do the subway method..........giving out copies on the subway, especially on 34 Street, West 4th, and Delancey. What the Bill Of Rights Press is about...um well, you know it.......2nd Amendment.

We could only protect our future generations using education. Since the liberals have brainwashed a lot of our youth, we have to counter act and undo all the damage they have done with our childrens' minds.

Bill Of Rights Press would be non-for profit. We just have to get along a group of dedicated people with our articles and stuff, and a good place, like Staples for example, to make copies of our work for us cheaply. We could do emails too.

Do you reckon? Send me an Aye! or Nay! on my Myspace.

Thanks.

Sounds like a good way to try and save the tristate area. Youth programs with .22 rifles are always a good start. My first experience with rifles was a fun and safe experience with the boy scouts. I can write articles for you if you need and my mother might volanteer to do minor editing.

There are a substantial amount of libertarians in CT too so tapping into that resource might not be a bad idea either. Most people are only anti gun because they were taught to be not for any logical reason.

It would nice if those eastern states like NY weren't so anti-gun. All gun laws are useless (including the NFA full auto thing), I find it funny when I read that it takes a lot of equipment to build a gun, take a look at this website (http://www.thehomegunsmith.com/9mmPistol.shtml). This place in England shows you how to make full auto 9mm pistol for free and sells a very simple design to make another 9mm full auto pistol out of pipe, springs and a few other commonly found parts. It's nice to see that even some English are fighting gun bans.

Well CT's gun laws are substantially better than New York especially when compared to New York City. If you have alot of money relocate to Greenwich its right near NYC but still in CT. Or if you are like my parents live in fairfield about 50 minutes outside of NYC and live here work there.

But what sort of other plans of action do we have for CT aside from plans to distribute information? Should we write letters and emails to our representatives? I know my mom called our congressmen up and experessed her grievances towards the newer handgun law. The one about how if its stolen and you dont report it in three days its a felony. Perhaps repealing this should be a first goal?

Thank you so much for your support guys!
Speaking of communications problems, we could utilize emails and myspace accounts to gather our articles before publishing them.

I am back in college right now, and I am going to wage an all out intellectual offensive against the freedom haters. Education will be my keyword of the day.

Well Greenwich is a bit out of my monetary reach any info on maybe Stamford as far as quality of life & a 2A landlord or dwelling would be nice as I already have a CT non resident permit.

Stamford has alot of business I know my dad used to work there. Fairfield has houses going for around 700,000$ but its very family oriented and kind of liberal. Stamford is nice but if want you specific statistics use the census website http://factfinder.census.gov/servle..._name=null&reg=null:null&_keyword=&_industry=

If you have further questions pm me since this is no longer firearms related. Also we need to improve CC reprocity CT currently rejects all other states permits. This is probably the easiest to defeat since there is no logic behind such legislation.

Absolutely currently we dont reciprocate with any other state in the Union. NJ and NY have more strict CCL processes than CT so theres no excuse for CT not reciprocating. Anyone know the legal measure we would need to make this happen?

what i would like to see in my lifetime:

-repeal of AWB I and II. stupidity foisted on the masses by George Jepsen and co.

-removal of all CCW off-limits places, and state pre-emption. currently on the list: schools (unless you have permission), while bowhunting (yes, look it up even cops can't ccw while bowhunting), general assembly, and any place that is posted no guns.

-statpolizei put on a leash. they have to stop making up laws as they go along (example: ban on all "AK-type" rifles).

-deadly force laws: removal of duty to retreat from the home and in public.

-no harrassment for open carry.

-reciprocity / recognition of out of state CCW. at least CT issues non-resident CCW. but you have to have it if you are in possession of a handgun ... else it's a felony.

-repeal of annual state machine gun registration. vestigial law not necessary with ATFE crawling all over NFA toy owners.

-repeal of mandatory felony penalty for pistol permittees failing to report change of address within prescribed time period.

-repeal of stupid law that forbids deer hunting with handgun.

-implementation of sunday hunting, at least on privately-owned land, regardless of zone.

i think this list would give poor Bob Crooks of CT Sportsmen a heart attack.

Realistically, we're going to be spending a lot of time fighting off new anti-gun proposals like the microstamping that passed in CA. There are a few more anti legislators who were elected last go around like Senator Tong who will be pushing foolish legislation.

For those interested, he believes more gun regulation is needed because his mother was robbed by a guy using a knife. No, really. The thief only 'claimed' he had a gun.

Sunday hunting should be doable. I think we're only a few votes away from getting it passed. In light of the murders in Cheshire, it might be possible to get a more castle doctrine 'like' law passed. I would like to see one of the emergency powers bills that restricts the right of local governments to disarm you during an emergency passed, but that might be a long shot.

Does everyone belong to the Coalition of CT Sportsmen? They seem to be the most effective lobbyists in Hartford we have. Unfortunately, the web site's been down for a while now. Not sure what's up.

Also, has anyone tried flying out of White Plains while transporting a handgun in luggage (with all proper precautions)? I just received my FL permit & will be flying down in a couple weeks & trying to decide whether to ship to myself or risk flying.

As I recall, carrying is generally off limits in state forests and parks, unless you are legally hunting with firearms hunting anyways- and then you can't carry any pistol larger than .22 LR.

-no harrassment for open carry.
Depending on how Peruta v. DPS SLFU, et-al goes, the judiciary may take care of that. We'll see, in time. Peruta is petitioning for a decleratory ruling and $15,000- we'll know in a few years how that ends up. He has had some successful suits in the past (prepared food tax, FOI stuff, etc...) Peruta's current action is filed in New Britain Superior Court IIRC.

Just happened to see this thread, which is coincidental because just today I came into possession of an old book (not an "antique," but old) that has some interesting information. It's a 1947 book with a blue cover put out by the State of Connecticut titled, IIRC, the "Connecticut Register." Has lots of marginally useful (in 1947) information like the names and cities of residence of all state and federal legislators, stuff like that.

At the very front is the text of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, followed by the Constitution of the United States, followed by the Connecticut State Constitution (including its antecedents). Looks like the CT Constitution says its citizens have the "right" to keep and bear arms, for the defense of the state and themselves.

Yet CT is one of those states that don't allow ANY mode of carry without a permit. It would appear that law is contrary to both the U.S. and CT constitutions. I guess I wouldn't choose to become the test case, but there has to be some way to make it clear to the legislators that the law is unconstitutional and needs to be changed.

The AWB in CT undermines exactly what our constitution requires us to do as citizens. We have alot of really workable ideas like improving CC recriprocation especailly if we drive the whole point home about what happened in Chesire and use that to get some castle doctrine in place. Sunday hunting and CC reprocity are our two easiest things to accomplish. Do any of you know any CT representatives who are pro gun and will help us?

Good point lets list out some state level defenders of freedom. Does NAFR allow non dealers to jion?

Many of my ancestors were the founding fathers of CT. I've counted at least 72 who fought in the American Revolution. I had a cousin that crossed the Delaware with Washington and an uncle who was at Valley Forge. I don't believe the present gun laws are what they fought for.

another law that needs to be repealed is the one that forces you to report private party handgun sales. needless waste of resources and time since all the criminals here seem to have a steady supply of guns even with it being enforced.
