Looking for opinions on this steel. Looking at a knife with it but have no experience. Reports are favorable and that it performs similarly to M390 and 20CV.

I was doing some research on M390 when I ran across similar comments, that it performs similarly to CTS-204P and 20CV. I don't have any actual experience with it, but here are some handy-looking links:

Thanks. I've seen the BladeHQ page and had no reason to disbelieve it. The other articles seem to reinforce that 204P is in fact close enough to 20CV and M390 to fit my needs. Looks to be the same.

My preference is for S35VN, 20CV and equivalents, and I'm guessing a few others that I haven't gotten to play with yet.

Now I just have to decide if the knife I'm looking at does anything differently than the knives I already own.

I still want to hear from users but these articles help.

I have three limited production knives on order right now............................... I need help

I have a ZT 0562CF with a 204P blade. I like it. Reprofiles easily with diamonds, touches up easily on ceramic rods. Very good edge retention and corrosion resistance. Not as chip resistant as some other steels, but not as brittle as some reports on the web would indicate either.

As stated above, the three steels are nearly identical in terms of ingredients. The CTS steel has a tiny bit more tungsten than the other two steels, so it might have a tiny bit of an advantage in edge retention.

I'm afraid that accurate-looking articles are the best I can do. I'm a lawyer, Jim, not a metallurgist!

My BM Valet is in M390, and I like it a lot. It's an office knife, not a hard duty knife, but it takes a very nice edge.

I actually have multiple knives in m390 and 20CV. I guess I just dint realize 204P was equivalent or close.

Ordered a Stedemon Jenova. Needed a small knife that’s not aggressive looking. Office attire, as you say. At least when I know I’ll be in meetings. Don’t need to scare my workmates.

Blade is only 2.75”
