Rifles under consderation are the DPMS LR-308, Tika T3 Varmint, Remington 700 SPS Varmint, and Vanguard Sub MOA. I like the idea of the semi auto auto action of the DPMS but my two Remington 700s in 7mm Rem Mag & .270 are dead nutts accurate and reliable. Thoughts on these ?

Vanguard sub-moa. simply because i'm biased. with the extra money you can mount a good scope on it. besides, who else gives you .99 moa guarantee?

I'd personally go with a bolt gun just for simplicity and economy (might not be an issue for you). I just got a 700 SPS Varmint .308 myself for about the same purpose as you. The stock is not terrible but is the weak link in the rifle. I will play with it, floating the barrel and stiffening the stock. I could cut to the chase and get a HS Precision or other good stock but I'd be happier if I can make this one work.

With the first 50 rounds (a couple of random handloads) it is averaging a little over MOA with spurts of half MOA brilliance. I'm pretty sure that the stock is holding it back. It was $540 plus tax and Remington has a rebate deal going right now too. Hard to beat.

The Vanguard is tempting too.

Have you looked at the CZ 550 Varmint in .308? Walnut, blued. heavy barrel and single set trigger for about $650.00.

This Howa M1500

Did This at 100 yards with my handloads. 3 rounds.

For a gun priced under $600 with scope when on sale, its kinda hard to beat.

Well, if I were to do a semi auto, I would only consider a Saiga, with long bbl and wood furniture, if you are that type, or short bbl, with synth furniture.
if you need a more classic, i would do a browning. as for bolties, i would look at the remmy and savage, and the cz, and that would be about it.

I can't believe it took until the 10th response for the M1A to be mentioned! :neener: Take a look at the M1A Loaded. If you wanna 1-up it, go for the National Match. If your pockets are the proverbial bottomless pit, go for the M25 Whitefeather.

Check out the Ruger KM77VTMKII in .308 Winchester, 26" heavy barrel, 3way adjustable target trigger, good looking laminate stock, in the Ruger dark phosphate Target Grey and it is very capable of sub MOA!

Savage Model 12F/TR. extremely accurate, under $1,300, comes with a TARGET version of the accutrigger (and you thought the original was good) this is a very, very good rifle that is a bit more than a range queen. it will work as one though.:p

i know it is not in your original list but........:D
