OK, I'm going to consider the "something else" a vote for Garands. I had resisted putting them on there, because then I'd have to put FN49's, Hakims, Ljungmann, etc. and I'd quickly run out of options. But I'm overwhelmed by the Garand crew.

I owm three mosin's and three K-31's. I have a great deal of respect for the Mosin's as a battle rifle, but if you compare the two objectively it's K-31 all the way...........Essex

Must be Swiss rifles.

I asked my husband why he needed two Garands.

I now have 4 K-31s. :what: :p

Good thing he reloads so he can keep my babies fed. ;)

Four K31's. Arperson your my kinda girl. Your husband is a lucky man. I say the k31's also. I do love the Garands though. Bang for the buck the swiss currently are hard to beat.

Other.

Oh, I like the Mosins-they're tough, simple, and cheap. But my heart belongs to the Mauser 96-the Swede. Gorgeous and extremely accurate.

I have one example of most, and my current favorite rifle is a Yugo M48A, but MN's are just thick in this house, busting out of every closet and from behind every door.
Now if we include ALL C&R eligibles, then it's my 311's hands down.

well, I don't own an Enfield or a K-31 yet, but I love the no. 4 and K-31.
of what I own, I find myself always wanting to shoot my Austro-Hungarian M1895. it's fun, it's accurate, quick to reload, and light and handy. if only ammo weren't so scarce. I really need to get into reloading. my Mosins are jealous of that grandma. especially since she looks better than them, even though she's 40 years older! (1904 manufacture, BTW.)

I'll go with my '43 Remington 03-A3. Later on I want to get a (ping) Garand! I do have one Mauser currently. I did have an 1895 Chilean 7mm Mauser. My plan is to acquire WWI,II and current U.S. small arms. What I can afford anyway!!

Next in line will be a M1 Garand followed by a M1 Carbine. Eventually I'll get a WWII Remington pump or auto shotgun to round it out.

SKS is the best deal in C&R rifles...and damn fun to shoot.

Although I presently own 4 Mosin-Nagants(2 Finn M39's, 1 Finn 91/30 and 1 Tula 91/30), I must admit that there is something ineffably right about the 1903 Springfield. My first milsurp boltgun was my Smith-Corona 1903A3, and the Remington 1903A3 and Springfield 1903 MkI I also own almost seem to scream at me as I hold them: "If you miss with me, it's nobody's fault but your own!"

The Mosins still get props for being possibly the best made/finished rifle you can buy for less than a C-note.

I think the BEST mil-surp is the Garand.
Second best, function-wise would be the No4 Enfield.

But this wasn't about what is the superior design, but rather what is in your heart, I.E. what you LIKE the best, logical or not.

For me, that has to be the Mosin Nagant. The blast is terrific from the "carbines" (I have a hard time calling rifles with 20" barrels "carbines", though), but I like the 91/30s and their loooong barrels (and those nasty cruciform 17" bayonets) best.

I couldn't really pick just one. I go through phases. First it was Mosin's. The an Enfield. Got brave and refurbished a Turk Mauser junker (Beautfiul gun now).

My Favorites are My Mosin M38 given to me by my wife to start the descent into milsurp madness.

My Ishy 2A. 12 shots of 308 in a very slick bolt. Nice gun for just bumming around with my super accurate handloads

Yugo SKS. After removing some unneeded weight, I had Kivaari redo the trigger and Murray Gun's retrofit the firing pin for a spring. After bedding the action the gun is a bonafide tackdriver (by Yugo Standards) Much better for run and gun/shoot and move scenarios. Time to attend a three gun match and see

My prettiest gun is a Ishy No1 MkIII that was restored to almost presentation grade. The stock was per Cabinetman's instruction. The metal was stripped of it's already flaking paint and repainted with alumahyde. The gun turned out almost flawless. Almost afraid to shoot it. But I take it out and flog it through the shrubs like the others.

The winner by a nose is my 43 Tula Ex-Sniper. Great bore by any standards. I will shoot clay targets at 300 yards with good accuracy with funky old wolf 200 gr sp.

But there is a 98/22 waiting in the wings for a decosmo session and a chance at the gun cabinet champion, a 1944 M38 Turk Mauser

Armoredman, If you had selected anything other than the Mosin we would have to see about revoking your prefered Commissar status from Russian-Mosin-Nagant.com :neener: :neener:
