Around here, central Texas, the ammo store shelves are beginning to fill up. Retailers are keeping stock week to week. The issue now is, everyone has the same thing; cases of 223 stacked in the aisles, 9mm (mostly the high end $1+ rounds), 350 Legend, 40 S&W and the various 6 point manbun cartridges. But 357 Magnum, 30-06; not to be had anywhere.
I realize the manufacturers are going to produce the ‘popular’ stuff first, and there’s going to be some imbalances, but do you think they have overdone it? There’s more 40 S&W than before the shortage.
Have the ammunition companies mis-judged demand or are they ‘promoting’ certain calibers? Just curious about others’ takes.

Was in Austin at Bass Pro recently and yes, the clerks were clearing shelves to make room for all the ammo, but as you said it was .223, 9 and .40. They did have 10 boxes of .357, the first I've seen in a long time. Here in Kansas, same story. More and more ammo, very limited selection, and I believe prices have actually increased a little. Once in a while there's a surprise, I was able to buy 3 boxes of large pistol primers at Cabelas recently but haven't seen any more. Still rare to see any powder.

Shelves at the Lawton Academy store and Atwoods are overflowing with .223/5.56mm, 9mm, .40 caliber, .308/7.62mm and .380 (Academy). But 9mm and .380 prices are very high. i need some .380 self defense ammo but i won't pay those prices.

My local Dick's Sporting Goods has quite a bit of ammo. I thought they'd stopped selling guns and ammo, but I went in my local one for the first time in several years and there were probably a hundred guns and a pretty large shelf of ammo. I asked the clerk and he said that not all of them stopped selling guns. Seems to have been the ones in demographic areas with a lot of Karens, which are probably most of them.

Around here the issue is cost. Only big store that sells guns/ammo is Scheels or fleet farm. Fleet farm has almost nothing. 2 weeks ago I stopped in Scheels they had a pallet of Remington thunderbolts. $57. for 500. yesterday they were all gone. they had the swamp people 300 packs of cci for $39. most of those were gone yesterday.

I simply refuse to purchase ammunition and or components at the current prices. If for some reason I would relent, it would be a ice cold day in hell! I have commercial ammunition acquired before this latest episode along with components for reloading. I may not shoot as often in the past but I won't go to the the poor house either at current pricing either.

I don't load shotgun ammo, I only have about a half box of .410 left, and I'm still not seeing any of it on the store shelves in this part of Idaho.

Stuff is still selling at the high prices and that's keeping prices from coming down. As long as there are enough people out there buying at the inflated prices it doesn't matter if others refuse to buy at those prices...

Well it's nice to hear that .40S&W is coming back, I don't own a .40 and never really cared to but I was thinking of snagging a S&W 4006 or G23 when I found them at PTI prices but since I hadn't seen any .40 in the last couple years I passed.

Ammo availability around me in Vermont is excellent now, almost getting back to the point where I can afford to expend a couple cases here and there where before it was pretty much an ammo famine. I can basically get whatever I want now, for reasonable prices. 9mm is around $0.28/rd...

While I understand that various shooters want whatever variety that fits their personal needs, manufactures are going to make what sells. And that’s going to be .223 and 9mm, then everything else. I was told at one time that .380 was only produced once or twice a year. Low volume compared to the big two calibers

FWIW, my LGS has a rather good supply of a wide variety of calibers, including some exotic ones such as Weatherby calibers, .300 Savage, .281 Bee, etc. They have .44 mag, etc. also.

FWIW, it’s about 30 minutes south of the Michigan line and an hour east of south Chicago.

I would agree 12 months ago, but now the "what sells" calibers are severely stagnating on the shelves. The same SW was overflowing with 5.56/.223 and 7.62x51/.308 in the rifle aisle too.

I am so glad I can reload everything I shoot but 22 lr and wmr.
357 is my favorite handgun load and I like my load better than anything offered by the factories.
Cast my own 358156 gc and load it over Mr. Skeltons choice of 2400. I still have a few pounds in unopened step square cans.
My only concern is supplies for trap loads. Couple years and I will be hurting tgere.
222, 223 on up to '06, and 45-70 I'm fine. I feel for those that don't load, or cast.

The last two pistols I built (1911 and a 2011) were originally built for my favorite pistol caliber, 10mm. But I also fitted 40 S&W barrels for when I wanted something that penetrates a bit less and/or might not be as scarce as 10mm (and cheaper) when things get tight.

I still have some 10mm ammo, but I just bought some 40 S&W range ammo and will be switching over my pistols. :)

Same here sir. I actually picked up an XRing .410 survival reloader, I haven’t had a chance to use it yet but it seems promising.
.410 seems to be making a pretty strong comeback, I wouldn't be surprised to see a whole whack of it on shelves everywhere. It's odd to me, years and years and the only .410 I've seen was very sparse and seemingly popular because of guns like The Judge, etc... Now my LGS seems to be getting all kinds of .410 shotguns in lately, I haven't spoke to him about it though, what gives. What's with the big .410 comeback?

Locally, I was at one of the Mid Atlantic well known gun stores a couple of weeks ago and they were well stocked. But prices were silly high on most stuff.

I picked up two boxes of my preferred SD ammo because they had it and its become hard to come by.

It used to be about $14/box and now its $25/box.

I buy 99% of my ammo online.

I would venture to guess that in, addition to the Judge type handguns, the availability of heavier than lead shot like tungsten has made the 410 more viable for hunting game like Turkey.

Store ammo shelves here in Pa are starting to fill back in. Basic calibers in mostly fmj & at ridiculously higher prices. Online prices have certainly dropped from the horrible prices they were hoping to get, but still too high in my opinion, I did find some .308 loaded with Lake City brass & 168gr SMK's online for a good price, ordered 4-200 round cases of it.

The ammo I want, 10mm auto and 308, is still showing seriously inflated prices (IMO) online that I can't afford to pay. I'm hoping that eventually the prices will come down to more sane levels. And I'm hoping this happens before I'm dead. ;)

Here in OKC I have gotten lucky and found a few boxes of #7.5/9 shot 410 ammo at academy and Walmart every so often... Still NO Slugs or 000B in 410. It is about 1/3 the price as the gun shows where they are "selling"( who is desperate enough to pay 200% markup is beyond me...) #7.5 shot for $30 a box and it's $9-12 at academy and Walmart depending on the brand. However I can get slugs and buckshot in 12GA regularly from academy if I go at the right time...

Lol, agree. I bought a goood bit when prices plummeted after President Trump 1st got in. My regret is that I didn't take out a $10k-$20k loan & buy pallet loads of my calibers!
